Overview

Are you ready to join a growing team?

CTG is seeking to fill a Software Engineer III opening for our client.

Location: Buffalo, NY
Duration: 12 months

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and contribute to complex systems analysis, application design, development, testing, implementation, and enhancement efforts.

  • Provide advanced technical leadership and serve as a key individual contributor on complex software development projects.

  • Design and implement scalable, reliable, and technologically sound application solutions based on business and technical requirements.

  • Develop and maintain applications utilizing advanced SQL, Azure SQL, Java, Spring Boot, JDBC/JPA, and related technologies.

  • Perform advanced SQL development, including data modeling, query tuning, indexing, stored procedures, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

  • Manage database changes using Liquibase, including database versioning, rollback strategies, CI/CD integration, and deployment automation.

  • Develop secure integrations between applications, databases, and enterprise platforms.

  • Participate in application and database migrations, modernization initiatives, and technology evaluations.

  • Collaborate with Development, Operations, Technology, business users, vendors, and other stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Prepare, review, and execute detailed test plans and test data; perform debugging and issue resolution as required.

  • Analyze complex interrelationships among programs, interfacing applications, databases, and technology platforms.

  • Prepare and maintain clear technical and functional specifications, system documentation, diagrams, and other project artifacts.

  • Develop project estimates, technical assessments, task plans, schedules, and effort estimates.

  • Monitor application performance and maintain the efficiency, stability, security, and effectiveness of supported applications.

  • Recommend and implement new technologies, development standards, policies, and processes to improve application quality and organizational effectiveness.

  • Participate in vendor software evaluations, due diligence, cost/benefit analysis, and business studies as needed.

  • Promote adherence to software development standards, procedures, security requirements, risk controls, and regulatory policies.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced developers and assist with coordinating development activities.

  • Track project milestones and delivery dates and help ensure successful completion of technical deliverables.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Works under the general supervision of Technology management and is expected to work independently on advanced systems analysis, application development, and technical design activities. The Software Engineer III will handle complex projects and may lead technical activities across projects of varying scope.

This position interacts with senior management, technology personnel, business stakeholders, vendors, and other project team members. The role may coordinate the work of less experienced resources, provide technical guidance and mentoring, and serve as a technical representative on committees, special projects, and other initiatives.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
  • May direct, coordinate, and monitor the activities of less experienced technical resources.

  • Provide technical mentoring, guidance, and knowledge transfer to development staff.

  • May assist with monitoring employee performance and providing input regarding staff development.

  • Coordinate development tasks and technical deliverables across projects.

  • May provide technical backup and leadership support to Technology management as required.

Education and Experience Required:
  • Associate degree and a minimum of 6 years of systems analysis/application development experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years of higher education and/or relevant work experience, including at least 6 years of systems analysis/application development experience.

  • Advanced experience with SQL development, including data modeling, query tuning, indexing, stored procedures, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with Liquibase for database change management, versioning, rollback, CI/CD, and deployment automation.

  • Experience with Azure SQL and cloud-based application development.

  • Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.

  • Experience with JDBC/JPA and secure application/database integration.

  • Familiarity with application development software, hardware platforms, and enterprise technology environments.

  • Experience working on multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Experience coordinating between application development teams and business units.

  • Experience recommending and implementing technology and system solutions.

  • Experience driving project milestones, schedules, and delivery dates.

  • Proven mentoring and technical leadership capabilities.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and lateral thinking skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application frameworks and development standards.

  • Experience supporting financial services or other highly regulated enterprise environments.

  • Advanced understanding of integrated applications, interfaces, databases, and enterprise systems.

  • Experience with application modernization, migration, and cloud adoption initiatives.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated software/database deployments.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to multitask across multiple components of complex projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand the broader system landscape and contribute to projects beyond normal business-as-usual activities.
