About this role
The Compression Group that is within Carrier's Mechanical Center of Excellence (MCOE) organization is seeking a motivated, results-oriented college student to join our team as a part-time intern (10 hr/week) for the Fall of 2026. The Carrier experience offers interns an environment that provides practical, challenging, and meaningful on-the-job work experience, and the opportunity to apply knowledge and demonstrate strengths in efforts to assist Carrier in achieving its business strategy. You will learn and apply skills in compression technology (centrifugal, reciprocating, rotary, scroll & screw), mechanical design, and thermodynamics. You will grow professionally to become knowledgeable on compression development and application for HVAC&R equipment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical design and analysis of components such as screw rotors, rolling element bearings, shaft seals, pistons, and pressure containing machined castings
  • Perform Vapor-cycle refrigeration thermodynamic analysis
  • Work closely with lab personnel to develop & execute laboratory test plans
  • Document design and development procedures in Engineering Standard Work
  • Utilize AI tools and techniques to drive process optimization and improve operational efficiency
  • Assist in troubleshooting compressor performance and field issues.

Basic Qualifications
  • Must be currently pursuing Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in any Engineering field.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Thermodynamics, mechanical assembly, CAD/3D software related coursework or previous internships preferred
  • Self-driven and proactive
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Team player and willing to collaborate with others on projects
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

Pay Range
The annual salary for this position is between $43,500.00 - $87,500.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.
Other Compensation
This position may be entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
Benefits
This position is not eligible for Carrier benefits.
