About Nexteer Automotive:

  • This corporate counsel internship position provides an opportunity for a second year law student to work as a legal intern in a fast-paced Legal Department for Nexteer Automotive, a publicly traded company with its corporate headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI. 
  • The position will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Corporate and will work in partnership with many of the attorneys, including the divisional legal directors and the specialized counsel.
  • The position will be located on-site in Auburn Hills, MI.

About the Legal Department:

  • Consists of 9 attorneys

Job Description:

  • Assist with a variety of tasks typical in a corporate legal department.
  • Work areas would include a broad range of matters such as: corporate governance, employment and labor, claims and litigation, compliance and ethics, commercial contracts, intellectual property, and other general corporate legal work.
  • Assist with various corporate tasks, including updating and maintaining the corporate document database, organization of files, and with any special projects as designated.
  • Draft and review NDA's and other legal documents.
  • Assist with various compliance tasks, including creation of presentations, improving marketing materials, researching compliance best practices, assisting with investigations.
  • Assist in litigation issues.
  • Assist with the drafting corporate entity documents, managing minute books, redlining various agreements, updating and maintaining the companies' database of subsidiaries.
  • Assist with review and timely response to subpoenas and other information requests.
  • Respond promptly to requests from the sales, purchasing, operations, finance, engineering, and other departments.
  • Summarize and communicate risks, legal concepts, company policies, and procedures in a way that business people can use.
  • Support the continuous improvement of standard agreements and legal processes.
  • Communicate effectively in a fast paced, multi-cultural environment.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a 2L enrolled at Wayne State Law School
  • Candidate must be able to work onsite 2-3 days per week on a multiple, consecutive semester basis
  • Candidate must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
    • Preferred: 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Candidate must be a full-time student
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, good judgment and professional
  • Demonstrate logic, reasoning, good judgment and have the ability to work independently and with a group/team; proven problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical and time management skills; able to meet deadlines
  • Superior English communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Impeccable ethics and integrity
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to work on-site
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
