Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Natural/ADABAS Developer to join a development and support team responsible for enhancing and maintaining a statewide Child Support System. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Natural/ADABAS, Linux-based application development, and large-scale enterprise systems. This role involves developing, supporting, integrating, and modernizing applications while collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications using Natural and ADABAS technologies.
  • Support and maintain a statewide Child Support System, ensuring application stability and performance.
  • Develop and execute Natural batch processes using JCL and/or SCL, as well as online processing.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements to design scalable and efficient application solutions.
  • Develop interfaces and integrations with external systems using modern technologies and web services where appropriate.
  • Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including analysis, design, coding, unit testing, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on application architecture and system design.
  • Recommend system and process enhancements to improve application functionality and operational efficiency.
  • Develop, maintain, and update technical documentation, procedures, policies, and system processes.
  • Train end users and provide technical guidance on application functionality and system enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective resolutions.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide production support for critical applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to modernize legacy applications and migrate outdated technologies.
  • Support Agile development initiatives and contribute to continuous process improvement.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of programming experience with Natural and ADABAS.
  • Experience executing Natural batch processes using JCL and/or SCL, as well as online processing.
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing, designing, and programming large or complex applications on Linux systems.
  • 4+ years of experience supporting automated Child Support Systems.
  • 3+ years of experience providing subject matter expertise on system architecture.
  • 3+ years of experience recommending system and process enhancements.
  • 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining technical documentation, policies, procedures, and process documentation.
  • 3+ years of experience training end users on software applications.
  • Strong experience with Unit Testing and software quality assurance.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call support rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of child support policies, procedures, and state/federal mandates.
  • Experience interpreting, designing, and implementing state and federal mandates in Linux-based enterprise systems.
  • Experience with Web Services/APIs.
  • Experience using NaturalONE (Software AG Designer).
  • Experience with SCRUM or other Agile methodologies.
  • Experience using Jira Software.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems and migrating outdated technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, facilitation, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
