What is appliance installation?

Appliance installation refers to the process of setting up and connecting household or commercial appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, washing machines, and dryers. This includes unpacking the appliance, positioning it correctly, making the necessary electrical, plumbing, or gas connections, and ensuring the unit is functioning properly. Professional installers follow safety codes and manufacturer guidelines to prevent damage and ensure safe operation. Proper installation can extend the lifespan of the appliance and help avoid potential hazards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an appliance installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Appliance Installer, you need knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems, mechanical aptitude, and often a high school diploma or relevant technical certification. Familiarity with tools like voltage testers, pipe wrenches, and installation manuals, as well as safety certifications such as OSHA, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, customer service skills, and attention to detail are important soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure safe, accurate installations and high customer satisfaction in both residential and commercial environments.

What are some common challenges faced during appliance installation, and how are they typically addressed?

Appliance installers often encounter challenges such as tight installation spaces, unexpected wiring or plumbing issues, and the need to ensure appliances are level and functioning safely. These situations require strong problem-solving skills and a thorough understanding of manufacturer specifications. Communication with customers and coordination with other trades (like electricians or plumbers) are also essential for resolving issues efficiently. Most companies provide ongoing training and encourage teamwork to help installers handle these challenges professionally.

Job description

Builder Sales & Services is a locally owned appliance retailer and installation company serving Macon and the surrounding Central Georgia area. Our company has been serving the community for more than 40 years, with a focus on quality appliances, knowledgeable service, and professional installation.

We work with homeowners, builders, designers, and contractors and sell and install appliances ranging from everyday kitchen and laundry products to premium and luxury brands.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Appliance Installation Technician to join our team.

Position Summary

The Appliance Installation Technician is responsible for the safe, professional delivery and installation of residential kitchen and laundry appliances in customers’ homes.

This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of hands-on experience installing residential kitchen appliances.

The ideal candidate takes pride in quality workmanship, works carefully in customers’ homes, communicates professionally, and can complete installations correctly and efficiently.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver and professionally install residential kitchen and laundry appliances.
  • Install refrigerators, ranges, cooktops, wall ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, ventilation products, washers, dryers, and related appliances.
  • Safely disconnect and remove existing appliances when required.
  • Make appropriate appliance connections within the technician’s training and authorized scope of work.
  • Verify proper appliance operation following installation.
  • Inspect appliances and installation areas for damage or potential issues.
  • Protect customers’ flooring, cabinetry, countertops, walls, and other property during delivery and installation.
  • Identify installation problems or site conditions and communicate them to the customer and management.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and installation equipment.
  • Complete installation documentation accurately.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to homeowners, builders, designers, and contractors.
  • Work effectively solo or as part of a two person installation team when required.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

  • Minimum 2 years of professional residential kitchen appliance installation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience installing multiple types of major kitchen appliances.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy appliances using appropriate equipment and team-lifting procedures.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of appliance delivery and installation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Professional appearance and communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely and respectfully inside customers’ homes.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.

General delivery, moving, warehouse, construction, maintenance, or handyman experience alone does not satisfy the two-year appliance installation requirement.

Preferred Experience

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience installing:

  • Built-in and integrated refrigerators
  • Wall ovens and combination ovens
  • Gas and electric ranges
  • Cooktops and rangetops
  • Built-in dishwashers
  • Vent hoods and ventilation systems
  • Premium or luxury appliances
  • Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, JennAir, KitchenAid, or similar appliance brands

Experience diagnosing or servicing residential appliances is also a plus but is not required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $25.00+ per hour based on experience
  • Full-time employment
  • Approximately 40 hours per week
  • Monday–Friday work schedule
  • Quarterly performance-based bonus opportunity
  • Two weeks of paid vacation
  • Minimum of three paid company-designated holidays annually
  • Health insurance with the company paying 50% of the employee premium
  • Company-provided work shirts
  • Company-provided tools and equipment required for the position
  • Company-provided vehicle (after successful completion of a probationary period)
  • Opportunity for advancement as the company grows

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who views appliance installation as a skilled trade and takes pride in doing the job correctly.

Our technicians work inside customers’ homes, including high-end and luxury residences where attention to detail is extremely important. The right candidate understands that a successful installation means more than simply getting an appliance into the house. It means protecting the customer’s property, installing the appliance correctly, checking its operation, cleaning the work area, and leaving the customer confident in the work performed.

We value employees who are dependable, professional, careful, accountable, and willing to be part of a growing team.

Application Requirement

Please apply only if you have at least two years of professional residential kitchen appliance installation experience.

Applicants should include enough information in their resume or application to demonstrate their appliance installation experience, including previous employers, approximate dates of employment, and the types of appliances they regularly installed.

Qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.
