The Apple Environment, Health & Safety team is looking for an experienced, board-certified Occupational Health physician to lead our global occupational health programs. This is a senior leadership role responsible for clinical oversight of employee health programs in more than 40 countries, working with a global network of external occupational health providers, contracted physicians, and cross-functional partners across EHS, Benefits, Legal, HR, and Employee Relations.
The ideal candidate brings deep clinical expertise in occupational medicine, a track record of building and managing programs in a corporate or enterprise environment, and the organizational agility to oversee vendor relationships, navigate international regulatory frameworks, and translate medical complexity into clear, actionable guidance for business partners.
Description
This position is responsible for overseeing Apple’s global occupational health efforts from a clinical perspective, including the following:
Clinical Program Leadership
Provide clinical oversight and set evidence-based standards for Apple's global medical surveillance programs, including Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Vision Conservation, Reproductive Health, Bloodborne Pathogen, Infection Control, and Chemical Exposure programs.
Lead the development and continuous improvement of fitness-for-duty, surveillance, pre-placement, periodic, and baseline health examination programs globally.
Review and provide medical opinion on worker injury and illness cases; guide next steps for employee support, care coordination, and corrective actions.
Evaluate workplace incidents from a clinical perspective and develop ongoing care plans and preventive measures.
Vendor & Contractor Management
Select, onboard, and manage global occupational health vendors and contracted physicians across all regions; establish performance standards, conduct regular reviews, and ensure quality and compliance.
Oversee vendor delivery of legally mandated health check programs (new hire, periodic, medical surveillance, RTW, termination) in each jurisdiction; identify and close gaps in coverage.
Partner with Procurement and Legal on vendor contracting, scope of services, and data privacy compliance (GDPR, LGPD, PIPL, etc.).
Regulatory & Compliance
Serve as the clinical authority on occupational health law and ethics in locations where Apple does business, ensuring programs meet or exceed local requirements.
Maintain current knowledge of global occupational health regulations and proactively advise EHS, Legal, and HR teams on emerging compliance obligations.
Manage and maintain records for regulatory and company-mandated medical surveillance programs in accordance with applicable data privacy and retention requirements.
Support global injury and illness reporting obligations (OSHA, RIDDOR, and equivalent) with accurate medical documentation and data.
Partnership and Prevention
Partner with Health, Benefits, the Wellness Center, and other key stakeholders to understand drivers of workplace-related injury and illness and develop preventive and educational programs.
Lead or contribute to the planning and redesign of work processes with respect to health protection, ergonomics, and hazard reduction.
Manage the prevention and clinical management of health issues related to international travel, including vaccination programs and travel medicine advice for globally mobile employees.
Conduct and synthesize research into work-related health issues, translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations for business stakeholders.
Develop psychosocial risk assessment programs and partner with HR and Employee Relations to address work-related mental health risks.
Preferred Qualifications
International or multi-country program experience - familiarity with occupational health regulatory frameworks outside the US (e.g., EU Directives, APAC regulations, Latin American NOM/NR standards) is a significant advantage.
Experience in research, manufacturing, or technology hardware environments where chemical, radiation, or ergonomic exposures are present.
Familiarity with travel medicine and health management for internationally mobile employees.
Experience with psychosocial risk programs and workplace mental health frameworks.
MPH, MS in Occupational Health, or equivalent graduate training in public health or environmental health sciences.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of occupational health experience, with a significant portion in a corporate or enterprise setting - clinical-only or hospital-based backgrounds will not meet the requirements of this role
Demonstrated experience managing external occupational health vendors, contracted physicians, and third-party medical surveillance providers - including RFP/selection, onboarding, performance oversight, and quality assurance across multiple geographies
Experience developing and implementing evidence-based occupational health programs at scale, including medical surveillance, fitness-for-duty, return-to-work, and hazard-based examination programs
Domain knowledge spanning industrial hygiene, ergonomics, psychosocial risk assessment, infectious disease, and reproductive health
Demonstrated experience in the identification, assessment, and control of occupational hazards to worker health
Familiarity with global injury and illness reporting requirements including OSHA (US), RIDDOR (UK), and equivalent frameworks
Analytical capability - able to collect, interpret, and present data to measure program effectiveness and support evidence-based decisions.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to influence without direct authority across HR, Legal, Benefits, and EHS teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate clinical and regulatory complexity into clear guidance for non-medical audiences.
Medical Degree (MD or DO) with completion of a residency in Occupational Medicine.
