Job Summary:
NEOGOV is a part of McHenry County College, which is seeking a Desktop Technician to provide comprehensive desktop user support. The role focuses on exceptional customer service and technical expertise while supporting college desktop technologies across various environments including hardware and software installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and end-user consultation.
Responsibilities:
• Resolve complex hardware, software, and network connectivity issues escalated from Tier 1 support, utilizing in-depth system and application knowledge.
• Analyze and optimize desktop performance in collaboration with Desktop Engineers.
• Research, evaluate, install, configure, and upgrade desktop applications and operating systems.
• Research and implement new desktop technologies, including virtual desktop and mobile device solutions.
• Install, configure, and support desktop, virtual desktop, and mobile device hardware and peripherals.
• Administer desktop patch management and maintain security best practices.
• Utilize software packaging and deployment tools for efficient software delivery.
• Utilize desktop image creation and deployment tools as needed.
• Provide consultations and solutions for desktop user technology needs.
• Develop thorough documentation for software and hardware installation and support processes.
• Create, maintain, dispatch, and complete incident tickets according to help desk procedures.
• Perform periodic help desk and instructional media technology tasks and phone support.
• Train, mentor, and utilize student employees in basic technology support methods.
• Assist with data entry in user support databases.
• Support students, faculty, and staff in using the Canvas Learning Management System.
• Assist other IT staff with system and hardware upgrades and major projects.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders, and vendors.
• Candidates must be able to adjust their schedule to accommodate weekend work for scheduled events and required commencement coverage throughout the year.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in CIS, A+ Certification or equivalent specialized training
• Three years of experience with computer hardware and software support
• Three years of customer service experience
• Three years of experience supporting Microsoft desktop technologies such as Windows OS
Preferred:
• Experience supporting desktop technologies in a medium to large size network in an academic environment
• Two years of experience with Apple Macintosh OS
