Job description

TITLE:  Network Technology Specialist
CONTRACT TERMS:  12-month 
SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Support Staff Salary Schedule Group G



  • $20.36

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for maintaining and supporting administrative and instructional networks and computer equipment in the District.  The Specialist repairs, installs and maintains computers, and LAN and WAN connections, as well as assists the Director of Technology with the planning and implementation of future projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Repairs or coordinates the repair of computer/network hardware and software
  • Installs new hardware and/or software
  • Installs upgrades to existing systems
  • Provides operational and software support to users, including hands-on training as needed
  • Researches and recommends new software and equipment
  • Maintains identification and location of computers and network hardware and software within the District
  • Maintains status on non-operational computers and network equipment
  • Serves as the initial resource person to resolve network and computer related questions and problems
  • Assists with the preparation of purchase requisitions and justification
  • Assists with the maintenance and installation of the District's telephone system
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A.  REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent;
  • Vocational/technical training in maintaining and troubleshooting personal computers (Apple and PC) and computer networks (TCP/IP and Appletalk);
  • Two years of related computer experience.  Related college coursework may be substituted for the related work experience;
  • Ability to maintain inventory and parts records;
  • Effective written, verbal and technical communication skills;
  • Patience, courtesy and tact when dealing with others.

B.  DESIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE  

  • Previous experience in a school setting;
  • Apple Computer Certification;
  • Microsoft Certification;
  • Cisco Certification.

C.  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  
Must have the ability to lift, move and set up equipment weighing 30 to 60 pounds.
D.  COMMITMENT & DEPENDABILITY

  • Willingness to adhere to policies and procedures.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
A.  TIME MANAGEMENT:  Must plan two to twelve weeks in advance;
B.  STRESS MANAGEMENT:  Minimal stress, with some deadlines;
C.  PUBLIC CONTACT:  Interacts primarily with students and other employees;
D.  LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:  Must use sound judgment in performing job duties;
E.  EVALUATION PROCEDURE:  In accordance with the provisions specified in Governing Board policy;
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports to the Director of Technology;
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:  None.
