Department University Recreation - 360000 Primary Purpose of Position
This Housekeeper - Evening Shift position is one of 8 housekeeping positions in UREC. The position is primarily responsible for daily cleaning and sanitizing of UREC facilities to include the Student Recreation Center, Quinn Center, Mt. Mitchell Fitness Center, State Farm Fields Restroom Facility, Broadstone Park Facilities, and the Bike App Trailer. Additionally, this position will provide support to UREC programs and services through event setup and breakdown as well as supporting the maintenance staff both inside and outside the facilities. During winter weather, snow/ice removal will need to be performed as needed to entrances and walkways of the facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.-
License/Certification Required Essential Job Functions
This position is primarily a housekeeping position.
General duties include;
  • cleaning restrooms/locker rooms to include toilets/urinals, showers, etc.
  • sweeping and mopping
  • trash removal
  • cleaning sinks, countertops, mirrors
  • operating floor cleaning equipment
  • general disinfection and sanitizing all areas of UREC facilities.

Additionally, the position will assist with snow/ice removal in winter.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
  • Ability to follow written and oral direction and instructions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of housekeeping duties.
  • Ability to follow written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, students, and participants in a manner that allows for work to be completed without compromising safety or the participant experience.
  • Basic knowledge of computers for email, calendar, payroll updates, performance management, etc.
  • Ability to work with cleaning and disinfecting chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to be physically able to lift moderate to heavy materials, equipment, and supplies on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work steadily for the duration of the work shift.
  • Ability to operate ASU vehicles with a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience as a housekeeper/custodian in an educational or health care environment.
2. Experience operating floor maintenance equipment.
3. Ability to work within team and individual settings.
4. Ability to obtain any certifications required.
Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.
Knowledge- Technical: Facility Cleanliness, inspection of building, thorough cleaning inside building along with outside responsibilities such as snow removal, pick up trash, clean sidewalks, etc. Minor building repairs including painting, drywall, and window. Also performs repairs on cleaning and activity equipment. Some floor refinishing needed during the year.
Interpersonal Skills: Develops and maintains effective working relationships with others in order to encourage and support communication and teamwork.
Communication: Listens to co-workers' questions or self identifies questions that need answering and selects an appropriate person or written source to consult to get a workable answer that can allow for progress in accomplishing the job.

Position will require lifting of equipment of 50lbs or more during the daily work schedule. Physical effort will be heavy at times and general to moderate during most hours.
Overall Competency Level Journey Salary Grade Equivalency GN02 Salary Range Anticipated Hiring Range $33,540 - $35,588
Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
