Software Development Engineer – Apache Flink Engineer, Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink

Job ID: 10453305 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Come change the way the world processes streaming data. The Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink (MSF) team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to work on the Apache Flink framework. We are looking for engineers who can learn and build distributed stream processing engines, are enthusiastic about data streaming, and excited to contribute to open source.

In this role you will:

  • Improve the stream processing engine, Apache Flink, to make MSF the defacto service for stream processing applications.
  • Maintain upstream compatibility and contribute changes back to the open‑source community.
  • Enhance efficiency and availability of the engine, add ease‑of‑use features and push the envelope of stream processing.
  • Write high‑quality, reusable code for highly scalable and reliable cloud‑based services.
  • Work closely with product and development management to architect the service.
  • Champion operational excellence by insisting on the highest standards.
  • Continuously improve service reliability and availability through code.
On‑Call Responsibility

This position involves on‑call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. Paged calls are managed with a focus on fault tolerance and root‑cause resolution to prevent recurrence.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, scalability).
  • Experience in one or more software programming languages.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Experience with data‑processing technologies such as Apache Flink, Apache Spark, Apache Storm, or Hadoop frameworks is a plus.

Salary range: 143,700.00 – 194,400.00 USD annually (Seattle, WA, USA).
