What is an anvil?

Anvils are heavy, usually metal, work surfaces used primarily by blacksmiths and metalworkers for shaping and forging metal. They provide a sturdy platform against which metal can be hammered, bent, or cut. Anvils are essential tools in blacksmith workshops, enabling craftsmen to manipulate heated metal into desired shapes. They typically feature a flat top surface, a rounded horn for shaping, and various holes for specialized tools. Modern anvils may also be found in jewelry making and other crafts that require precise metalworking.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an anvil?

Working with heavy materials and machinery requires constant attention to detail to avoid defects or accidents. Additionally, operators must frequently collaborate with other team members, such as machinists and quality inspectors, to ensure that finished products meet exact specifications and production deadlines.
