Job description

Are you looking to make a POSITIVE IMPACT on the lives of older adults and caregivers with the work you do?

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial oversight and operational accounting across Cheer Home Care and Health Care. This is a flexible, part-time role designed with parent-friendly hours-ideal for a seasoned professional who wants meaningful work without a traditional full-time schedule. Responsible for driving financial accuracy, strengthening internal controls, improving process efficiency, and partnering directly with operations to enable profitable growth and best-in-class service.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and tactical-comfortable rolling up their sleeves while also advising leadership on financial performance and operational improvements. The controller will report to the CEO and operate out of the Cheer office located at 5622 La Jolla Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037.

What You'll Do:

  • Financial Reporting & Performance Management
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead the month-end close process for operations, including account reconciliations and intercompany settlements.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance analysis, and operational dashboards.
  • Maintain key reporting metrics, including A/R aging and 13-week cash forecasts.

Internal Controls & Compliance:

  • Ensuring the company complies with state and federal regulations, primarily as it applies to compliance with compensation requirements for employees falling under CA wage orders 15 & 22.
  • Identify, assess, and remediate internal control gaps across field operations.
  • Standardize accounting practices and procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Oversee controls related to payroll, invoicing, cash handling, and authorization levels.
  • Assist with conducting performance evaluations and reinforcing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Systems, Audit & Strategic Projects Support:

  • ERP implementations and system integrations within field operations.
  • Prepare audit schedules and support tax and sales tax reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Accounting and partner with Operations leadership on performance optimization initiatives.

  • Experienced, knowledgeable, and comfortable working within small, growing, entrepreneurial organizations.
  • Accurate and on-time monthly financial close and reporting.
  • Reduced inventory variance and improved VMI controls.
  • Strengthened financial discipline and operational transparency across field locations.

Requirements

  • CPA (preferred)
  • Home or Health Care Industry Knowledge (preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 10+ years of relevant accounting or financial leadership experience
  • Expert understanding of accounting, financial statements, and internal controls
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with major ERP systems
  • Strong communication, leadership presence, and ability to collaborate across functions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and drive outcomes independently
