The Target Pay for this position is $22.74 an hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

This is a temporary position that has a potential end date in six months.

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Parasitology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests.In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Sets up,runs,reads,andreleases lab tests.

• Meetallminimumdepartmentrequirements for Para and Giardia reading/releasing rates.

• Exercisesjudgmentin evaluating and reporting results.

• Performs equipment maintenanceactivities.

• Awareness of quality control andcalibration.

• Assistslead or supervisor with rechecks asdirected.

• Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized workarea.Restockssuppliesas needed.

• May becross trainedto perform other duties, such asperforminglesscomplextests, including duties performed by Para Aide.

• Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.

• Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalentrequired, Science degree or vet technician experience is preferred. Prior lab experience preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Laboratory skills, with experience settingup,running,andreading lab testsandoperatinglabinstrumentspreferred.

• Knowledge ofmedicalandlaboratoryterminology,Parasitologyprocedures,equipment,and familiarity with amicroscopepreferred

• General science background

• Attention todetail and organized with ability to multi-task inafast-pacedenvironment

• Ability to work independently and as part of ateam

• The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able toexchangeaccurateinformationinthesesituations

• Positive, can-do attitude

• Generalcomputerskills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.

• Constantlyoperatesacomputer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.

• Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch

• Mayberequiredtolift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.

• Heavy microscopic work

• The abilitytoobservedetailsatcloserange.

• Proficiencyin the English language which allows for participation in teammeetings,accurateentryof data into company systems and understanding of written directions.

• Extended hours may beneeded

• Laboratoryenvironmentswithpotential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE.

• Work underclose tomoderatesupervision.

• Potential forexposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
