As a Senior Software Engineer within Optum Insight, you will be part of an innovative engineering team dedicated to designing, developing, and deploying enterprise-scale software applications, analytics platforms, and AI-powered solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate machine learning models, build intelligent automations, and architect scalable, high-performance software systems that simplify and enhance clinical, administrative, and financial processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve full-lifecycle software applications and AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible use of AI
  • Design, build, and integrate artificial intelligence capabilities, machine learning pipelines, and intelligent automation into enterprise software products
  • Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous software engineering improvement
  • Evaluate emerging trends, frameworks, and technologies to inform solution design, architecture, and strategic technology innovation
  • Collaborate with software architects, data scientists, product managers, and engineering teams to define application requirements and solution specifications
  • Conduct code and architecture reviews, provide constructive technical feedback, and mentor junior and mid-level software engineers
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve performance bottlenecks, model integration issues, and system defects across production environments
  • Drive continuous integration, continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline enhancements, and automated testing for software and model workflows

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of software development experience 
  • 5 years of professional software engineering experience delivering enterprise-level applications
  • 5 years of hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot framework development
  • 3 years of experience designing, building, and deploying AI-powered applications, machine learning workflows, or intelligent automations
  • 3 years of experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs, microservices architectures, and data pipelines
  • 3 years of experience working with relational or non-relational database management systems
  • 2 years of experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • 2 years of experience integrating AI/ML frameworks, libraries, or APIs into production software applications
  • 2 years of experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) toolchains (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Python programming for software development, data processing, or AI model integration
  • Experience with cloud-native AI/ML services (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure OpenAI, GCP Vertex AI)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices, model monitoring, versioning, and automated testing frameworks
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js)
  • Experience working within the healthcare technology industry or regulated domain environments

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
