To thrive in Animal Wellness, you need a solid understanding of animal behavior, health, and nutrition, often supported by a degree in animal science, veterinary technology, or a related field. Familiarity with animal care software, laboratory equipment, and relevant certifications such as Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA) are typically required. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring the well-being of animals and fostering trust with clients and colleagues.

What is animal wellness?

Animal wellness refers to the overall health and well-being of animals, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional aspects. It involves proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, mental stimulation, exercise, and a safe, comfortable environment. Animal wellness professionals aim to promote a high quality of life for animals through preventive care, early detection of health issues, and education for pet owners. This holistic approach benefits not only pets but also animals in shelters, farms, and wildlife settings.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in animal wellness, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in animal wellness often encounter challenges such as managing diverse animal behaviors, balancing the needs of multiple animals at once, and effectively communicating with pet owners about care routines and health concerns. These challenges can be addressed by staying updated on animal behavior training, developing strong organizational skills, and fostering clear, empathetic communication with clients. Additionally, teamwork and collaboration with veterinarians, trainers, and other animal care specialists are essential to ensure the best outcomes for animals under their care.

We believe in the universal truths of pet parenthood - the boundless boops, missing slippers, late night zoomies and everything in between. And we're here for it. Every tail wag, every vet visit, every step of the way. We are 29,000+ strong and together we nurture the pet-human bond in more than 1,500 Petco stores across the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico, 250+ Vetco Total Care hospitals, hundreds of preventive care clinics and eight distribution centers. In 1999, we founded Petco Love. Together, we support thousands of local animal welfare groups nationwide and have helped find homes for approximately 7 million animals through in-store adoption events.
As a Companion Animal Supervisor, you are a trusted subject-matter leader responsible for the health, care, and presentation of our live animals while driving sales, customer experience, and operational excellence within the Companion Animal and Aquatics departments.
You lead through expertise and influence, coaching partners to deliver exceptional animal care and knowledgeable service.
