What are Animal Software Developers?

Animal Software Developers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain software applications specifically tailored for use in animal-related fields. This can include veterinary practice management software, animal tracking systems, wildlife monitoring tools, and applications for animal research or pet care. They combine knowledge of software engineering with an understanding of animal science or industry needs to create effective technological solutions. The role may involve collaborating with veterinarians, researchers, or animal welfare organizations to ensure the software meets practical requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with languages like Java, Python, or C++, as well as experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and development frameworks, is typically required. Collaboration, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for working in dynamic teams and understanding project requirements. These skills ensure the development of high-quality, maintainable software that meets user needs and business goals.

What are some common challenges faced by Animal Software Developers when creating applications for animal health and welfare?

Animal Software Developers often encounter challenges related to integrating diverse data sources, such as veterinary records, wearable sensors, and environmental monitors. Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of animal-related data can be complex due to variability in data formats and the need for real-time processing. Additionally, developers must design user-friendly interfaces for veterinarians, researchers, and caretakers who may have varying levels of technical expertise. Collaborating closely with animal health professionals is key to understanding the practical needs and constraints of the end users.

What is the difference between Animal Software Developer vs Animal Technician?

AspectAnimal Software DeveloperAnimal Technician
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Computer Science or related field, programming skillsAssociate's or Bachelor's in Animal Science or related field, technical training
Work EnvironmentOffice, research labs, or remoteVeterinary clinics, animal shelters, research facilities
Industry UsageTech companies, research institutions, biotech firmsVeterinary practices, animal care facilities, research labs

Animal Software Developers focus on creating software solutions for animal-related industries, requiring programming skills and tech knowledge. Animal Technicians assist with animal care and support in clinical or research settings. While both roles serve the animal industry, their skills and work environments differ significantly.

Job description

Company Overview:

SCATR – THE DATA CAMOUFLAGE COMPANY™

Born from warfighter requirements and inspired by the animal kingdom’s natural defense mechanisms, we developed patented, quantum-resistant Data Camouflage™ technology for data in motion—safeguarding enterprises and the individuals who depend on them.

The STUN™ security platform empowers organizations to proactively secure data in motion across untrusted networks, providing data obfuscation, resiliency, and quantum-proof security. Our patented, quantum-resistant Data Camouflage™ technology allows enterprises to secure their data in motion across the world’s most hostile environments, addressing a critical gap in Zero Trust security architectures that often focus on protecting data at rest (ZTN) and data in use (ZTNA).

We integrate with global providers like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Equinix to enhance our placement and access, offering true edge to enterprise solutions.

SCATR is Zero Trust Transit™ security for data in motion.

Job Overview:

SCATR™ seeks a highly skilled Product Engineer to contribute to the development and refinement of our patented Data Camouflage™ technology solutions. As a Product Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including security, DevOps and network architecture, to integrate obfuscation technologies and ensure the secure and efficient transit of data across our platform. This role requires a deep understanding of secure data transmission, cloud environments and cutting-edge cybersecurity principles, particularly Zero Trust Architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Development: Design and implement new features to enhance SCATR’s Data Camouflage™ technology product suite, ensuring seamless integration with global cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Collaboration: Work with cybersecurity, DevOps and cloud teams to incorporate Zero Trust security principles into the product architecture.
  • Obfuscation Technology: Develop and improve data obfuscation methodologies to secure data in transit through untrusted environments.
  • Security Enhancements: Collaborate with security engineers to ensure the product adheres to modern security standards (NIST, MITRE ATT&CK, Zero Trust principles).
  • Cloud Integration: Design and optimize solutions for secure data transmission across cloud environments, leveraging technologies such as IAM, MFA and VPNs.
  • Testing & Quality: Conduct rigorous testing to ensure product stability, performance and security. Monitor and optimize product behavior in real-world, contested environments.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed technical documentation, including architecture, design decisions, security policies and product updates.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on emerging cybersecurity threats, obfuscation technologies and cloud services, recommending improvements when needed.

Why SCATR?

  • Innovative Technology: Work with cutting-edge technologies that are transforming data security.
  • Collaboration & Growth: Join a dynamic team where your contributions directly impact global organizations' ability to secure their data in motion.
  • Competitive Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package, flexible working hours and the opportunity to work on impactful projects.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years in product engineering, software development, or network security.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their security services.
    • Strong understanding of network security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs) and secure data transmission methods.
    • Experience with Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), identity and access management (IAM), and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
    • Proficiency in coding languages such as Python, Java, or Go.
    • Familiarity with network architecture, SASE, SD-WAN, and related protocols.
  • Collaboration Skills: Ability to work across multiple teams, especially in security and DevOps, to drive product success.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex security requirements into practical product solutions.
  • Agile Experience: Previous experience working in Agile or Scrum development environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NIST 800-207, MITRE ATT&CK, and the CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model.
  • Previous experience working on products focused on data security, obfuscation, or secure communications.
  • Knowledge of security automation and orchestration tools.
