Job Description
The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional program boasts a unique curricular structure, which provides nearly two years of hands-on training in the college's general and specialty clinics. Additionally, the College is a leader in the training of Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students in the areas of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Pathobiology. Simply put, our mission is to Teach, Heal, Discover, and Serve.
The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery is dedicated to developing and disseminating knowledge to improve the health and well-being of animals and people through instruction, innovative research, service, and leadership. The department is home to the college's Veterinary Health Center where our faculty provide clinical care, teach, and develop innovative treatments and therapies.
We are currently seeking candidates for an Open rank teaching professor (NTT) or Open rank professor (T/TT) in Small Animal Internal Medicine . Incumbents will join a varied service comprised of seven faculty members (two who operate a Respiratory and Aerodigestive specialty clinic within the service) who treat between 1,700 and 1,800 cases per year. The SAIM service also frequently consults for other services within the Veterinary Health Center.
This appointment's primary teaching and clinical focus is providing faculty support to the small animal internal medicine section in the Veterinary Health Center (VHC). Tenure track faculty are expected to develop a research program related to small animal internal medicine, or another related discipline. As part of this appointment, the successful candidate will:

• Provide clinical instruction for students (professional), interns, and residents in small animal internal medicine utilizing the caseload of the VHC and by providing cutting-edge medical care to patients of the VHC.
• Participate in the discovery process by participating in clinical, resident or house officer research. Tenure-track faculty have an expectation for extramurally funded research programs. Collaborative research and research mentorship are rewarded.
• Contribute to the professional and graduate curriculum by participating in classroom and laboratory instruction. Opportunities for online instruction are possible.
• Represent the University, College, and VHC through outreach activities for animal-owning public, referring veterinarians, or other relevant stakeholders.
• Provide telephone consultation to off-site, university-operated clinics and veterinarians regarding medical issues.
• Participate with other faculty and house officers in after-hours call.
• Participate in faculty governance activities and provide service to the department, college, and university as well as to the profession, as appropriate.

This is a full-time, benefit eligible, 12-month/year appointment. Non-Tenure or tenure track options are available depending on the qualifications and interests of the candidate. Distribution of effort between teaching, research, and service will depend upon whether a tenure track or teaching track option is chosen as well as the successful candidate's qualifications, career goals, and the needs of the small animal internal medicine section.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

• A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (such as VMD, BVSc)
• Diplomate status or eligibility for board certification by either the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in Small Animal Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine; or completion of an approved small animal internal residency training program by appointment start date

Candidates will be evaluated on:

• Eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Missouri and for DEA registration and BNDD certificate
• Professional, residency and graduate training
• Educational and professional achievement, career goals and the needs of the college.
• Tenure/Tenure-Track candidates will also be evaluated on advanced graduate training (PhD or equivalent preferred) and/or post-doctoral experience.
