Salary: $22.00-$28.00/hr

Mercury Animal Hospital, Inc. is actively recruiting a licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team. A friendly, caring, animal loving, individual with good work ethics and technician skills.

Major job tasks:

  • Be able tosupervise and train veterinary assistants and kennel assistants when needed
  • Be able to work with hospital veterinarians to coordinate proper care of hospitalized patients
  • Be able to keep accurate records (control drugs, OSHA, etc.)
  • Be able to obtain accurate medical history at intake and effective prepare and go over discharge instructions
  • Be able to perform laboratory procedures (including hematology, cytology, CBC, chemistry, U/A,

microbiology, fecals, smears, etc)

  • Be able to perform diagnostic imaging and implementing safety protocols for other staff members to follow
  • Restrain patients during exams, treatments, procedures etc.

  • Observe patients behavior or health concerns and report them to the attending Veterinarian
  • Be able to administer medications via all routes (PO, IV, SQ, IM)
  • Be able to correctly calculate and administer medications
  • Be able to correctly calculate and administer anesthetic doses
  • Be able to correctly calculate fluid rates and amounts properly
  • Be able to perform in-hospital treatments (restraining, applying and maintaining bandages, venipuncture,

IV catheter placement, etc.)

  • Assist with surgical procedures (induction, surgery prep, anesthesia monitoring, recovery, etc.)
  • Care and maintain hospitalized patients
  • Dental procedures (dental prophylaxis, dental radiography, etc.)
  • Be able to properly fill prescriptions and accurately review the directions with each client
  • Assist with appointments

  • Assist with receptionist duties (when needed)

  • Basic husbandry duties

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology

    Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (REQUIRED)

    Veterinary experience: (2) years minimum (REQUIRED)

    MUST be LICENSED in the state of VIRGINIA
