Job description

Summary

This position is responsible for picking up animals at large in Finney County. The position also provides some civil process services and is under the direct supervision of the Patrol Captain and/or his/her designee.

Definition and Examples of Work

Patrol for and/or attempt to catch stray, abused/neglected, or nuisance animals

  • Pick up stray cats, dogs, and other vicious animals in response to complaints and to provide for rabies observation and control.
  • Patrol areas of the County as assigned to maintain animal control compliance.
  • Set traps for nuisance animals including, but not limited to, racoons, skunks, and possums. Ensure proper relocation.
  • Maintain accurate records on pick-up and disposition of animals.
  • Enforce leash laws.

Respond to animal attack calls; determine proper course of action

  • Respond to complaints at the Animal Shelter and evaluate cases that may need law enforcement response.
  • Track animal bite cases and ensure animal has proper vaccinations.
  • Respond to animal bite/attack calls; determine and enforce proper confinement.
  • File appropriate reports and report incidents to proper agency.

Complete other support functions as required

  • Testify in court when required.
  • Euthanize and dispose of animals at Sanitary Landfill as needed.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle and equipment, to include cleaning and servicing.
  • Remove deceased animals from roadways
  • Assist with other department duties as required.
