Job description

About Medal
Millions of gamers capture, share, and discover new games on Medal, the largest platform for gaming clips. Our mission is to design products that make sharing and connecting around gaming seamless and fun, and build a place where brands and game publishers can reach high-quality gamers to grow their products. Medal's data powers General Intuition, the frontier research lab that recently raised $320M at a $2.3B valuation led by Khosla Ventures with participation from General Catalyst, Eric Schmidt, and Jeff Bezos.
The Role
The majority of work will involve deepening how our recorder interfaces with games. For this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the integrations that interface directly with game engines and game-specific APIs by developing engine plugins (Unreal, Unity) to let us extract game-specific data and power features like auto clipping. This is low-level, hands-on work: understanding how games work, writing engine plugins, reverse-engineering how games expose (or don't expose) the data we need, working with game APIs and log files to let us capture those magic moments without our users having to lift a finger.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ Years of C# experience in performance-critical contexts
  • Good understanding of the Windows OS
  • Demonstrable evidence that you play or tinker with games, not just build software
  • In-person: Looking to hire in NYC to contribute alongside the product team. 5 days in the office
  • Ownership & attention to detail: You see things through, and can be responsible for end-to-end quality of complex features
  • Code Performance: Excellent understanding of code performance implications in production and confident with profiling tools
  • Be result-driven: Everything we do is driven by the metrics and performance of the feature. We move fast and ship regularly
  • Measuring with metrics: Comfort with A/B testing and measuring results with usage metrics
  • Gaming: A passion for games and the gaming communities, and a user of Discord and other gaming-adjacent products.
  • Bonus: C/C++ experience in performance-critical contexts
  • Bonus: Graphics API experience, especially DX11, DX12 and Vulkan
  • Bonus: Reverse engineering and hooking/injection experience
Our Stack
Electron, React, Redux, Styled Components & other modern web-based technologies
C# and C++ for native windows recording & more
Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android
Java, Redis, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes for backend
Terraform, Salt, GitHub Actions, CircleCI for IaC and CI/CD
