Description -

Job Summary
This role is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of networking capabilities on embedded software and firmware for Poly Video hardware products. The role ensures the identification and resolution of software and firmware issues, ensuring timely and effective solutions. The role creates and updates technical documentation, including design specifications, code comments, and user guides. The role stays up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in embedded systems and firmware development.
Responsibilities
Delivers software system designs and implementation on Android and Linux based systems with a specific focus on networking capabilities.
Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
Provides networking specific expertise and overall firmware leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.
Collaborates with hardware engineers to ensure proper integration and communication between hardware and firmware components.
Specifies and documents communication protocols, system states, and feature requirements in partnership with other firmware and software teams.
Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the firmware design organization.
Mentor less-experienced software firmware engineers and help guide them to successful deliverables.
Education & Experience Recommended
Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
Typically has 7-10 years of work experience, preferably in firmware development, or a related field.

Strong C / C++ development background including object oriented design principles
Embedded Systems & Firmware Development

Ability to perform root cause analysis and resolve complex network incidents

Git (Version Control System)
Linux / Android networking software development experience
New Product Development including bringing up early development boards
Python for network automation and testing
Real-Time Operating Systems
Comfortable reading and understanding C, C++, or Python source code to support troubleshooting, packet-flow analysis, and root-causes of network and protocol-related issues
Experience with network simulation appliances (Ixia, Spirent)

Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, NAT, routing, and switching.
Hands-on experience with enterprise network equipment (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, HP, or equivalent)
Experience configuring and troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks.
Knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP
Experience with network security technologies including firewalls, VPNs, ACLs, and NAC solutions
Understanding of wireless networking technologies (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and WLAN troubleshooting
Familiarity with wireless authentication methods such as WPA/WPA2, WPA3, 802.1xEAP
Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, etc.)
Knowledge of QoS implementation for voice and video traffic
Familiarity with IPv4 and IPv6 networking
Authentication methods such as PEAP, TLS, TTLS, NTLM

Nice To Have Skills

  • Experience designing large-scale enterprise or global networks.
  • Knowledge of SASE and Zero Trust architectures.
  • Demonstrated background with APIs and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $120,650to$157,450CAD annually Pay within this range will be based on the review of experience, skills, and internal equity.

As a full time, employee of HP Canada, you will be eligible to participate in the company's group benefit programs, including medical, dental, life insurance, and disability coverage, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. During your employment term, you will receive 15 paid vacation days per year prorated based on your start date. Detailed information regarding benefits-will be provided upon hire and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
