What are Android Engineers?

Android Engineers are software developers who specialize in designing, building, testing, and maintaining applications for devices running the Android operating system. They use programming languages like Java and Kotlin, as well as Android development tools, to create mobile apps that are user-friendly, secure, and efficient. Android Engineers often collaborate with designers, product managers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality mobile experiences. Their work involves not just coding, but also problem-solving, debugging, and optimizing app performance.

Will AI replace Android developers?

Android developers create and maintain mobile applications for the Android platform, and AI is unlikely to fully replace this role. Instead, AI tools can assist developers by automating routine tasks, improving code quality, and enhancing app features, but human expertise remains essential for design, problem-solving, and user experience. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance test coverage, support CI/CD processes, execute testing activities, and contribute to overall quality assurance best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
Essential functions
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated mobile test suites using Java and Appium for both iOS and Android platforms, covering critical user journeys including barcode scanning, geofencing, and in-store checkout flows.
  • Build and maintain API automation using REST Assured, validating backend services that power the mobile app.
  • Create and execute Postman collections for regression and smoke testing across backend microservices.
  • Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines and ensure reliable execution on real devices.
  • Collaborate with mobile engineers, DevOps, and QA leads to maintain pipeline health, improve test coverage, and support stable release cycles.
  • Participate in test planning, sprint ceremonies, and contribute to shift-left practices across the team.

Qualifications
  • Strong experience in mobile test automation using Java and Appium (iOS + Android), with hands-on knowledge of XCUITest and UIAutomator2 drivers.
  • Solid understanding of mobile-specific testing challenges: device fragmentation, OS permissions, background/foreground app lifecycle, and real device vs emulator tradeoffs.
  • Experience with API testing and automation using Java (REST Assured or similar), including request/response validation, contract testing, and negative scenarios.
  • Hands-on experience with Postman for exploratory, smoke, and regression testing across backend services.
  • Experience integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines and working with cloud device farms (BrowserStack, Sauce Labs).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar.

We offer
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects
  • Work with a highly motivated and dedicated team
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible schedule
  • Benefits package - medical insurance, vision, dental, etc.
