What does an anatomy instructor do?

An Anatomy Instructor is responsible for teaching students about the structure and function of the human body. They deliver lectures, lead laboratory sessions, and develop course materials to help students understand anatomy concepts. Anatomy Instructors may also assess student progress, supervise dissections, and stay updated on developments in the field. Their work is essential for students pursuing healthcare or biological sciences careers.

How does an anatomy instructor typically collaborate with other faculty and departments in an academic setting?

Anatomy Instructors often work closely with colleagues in related fields such as physiology, biology, and clinical departments to create integrated curricula and ensure consistency in course content. Collaboration may include co-developing lab activities, participating in interdisciplinary teaching teams, and contributing to curriculum committees. Regular communication and joint planning with other instructors help maintain high educational standards and provide students with a cohesive learning experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an anatomy instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Anatomy Instructor, you need a strong background in human anatomy, typically with an advanced degree in biology or a related field, along with teaching experience. Position Summary
The Altoona Campus is seeking an Aquatic Fitness Instructor to join our team!
Our aquatic fitness program is a valued part of our community. For many of our members, class is not just about exercise, but a place where people show up for each other. It's where they move their bodies, take care of their health, and stay connected to a group of people who notice when they're there and when they're not.
Our instructors are central to making our community possible. They don't just lead workouts- they help build relationships, encourage consistency, and create an environment where people feel welcomed, supported, and genuinely seen.
We're looking for someone who enjoys movement, enjoys people, and understands that fitness can improve not only physical health, but also mental and emotional well-being. Whether your style is upbeat and social or more structured and fitness-focused, we value instructors who bring energy, professionalism, and their own personality to the pool.
Position Responsibilities
  • Arrive about 15 minutes before each scheduled class to set up equipment and welcome participants.
  • Lead safe, engaging 45-minute aquatic fitness classes.
  • Plan and deliver well-rounded workouts that include cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, flexibility, balance, and mobility.
  • Create appropriate music playlists that match the pace, energy, and flow of each class.
  • Adapt exercises to accommodate a wide range of fitness levels, abilities, and physical limitations.
  • Clearly demonstrate movements and provide simple, encouraging instruction throughout class.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
  • Build positive relationships with participants while maintaining a professional instructor presence.
  • Monitor participant safety and encourage proper form throughout class.
  • Set up, clean, and properly store all aquatic fitness equipment before and after class.
  • Communicate any equipment, maintenance, or safety concerns to facility staff in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality. When unable to teach a scheduled class, instructors are expected to arrange for a qualified substitute and notify the supervisor, except in the case of an emergency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience leading aquatic fitness, group fitness, or wellness programs preferred.
  • Strong understanding of human movement and basic exercise principles (such as anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, or related knowledge).
  • Ability to independently plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging workouts.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort leading groups of varying ages and abilities.
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional.
  • Comfortable working in a community-focused environment with strong member relationships.
  • A genuine interest in helping others improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

What Makes Our Program Special
  • We have a true sense of community where members know one another and genuinely look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones.
  • Classes that are often the highlight of our members' day.
  • A supportive, long-standing participant base that values consistency, connection, and quality instruction.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on people's health, confidence, and overall well-being.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Hourly wage: Up to $15/hour, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Complimentary membership to the Altoona Campus for the instructor.
  • Reduced Altoona Campus membership rates for spouses and dependents.
  • A free season pass to the Altoona Aquatics Park for the instructor.
