Job Requirements

General Summary

ย Responsible for leading and managing the operational implementation, training, and support of cutting-edge technology solutions developed by the UMMS Center for Technology Innovation. Ensure the successful integration and optimization of novel technologies within healthcare settings. Conduct discovery sessions to facilitate the transformation of healthcare workflows through innovative technology solutions. Work is performed under limited supervision. Direct report to the Senior Manager, Solution Design & Implementation.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Lead and mentor a team of Implementation Engineers and analysts to implement and support new, custom technology solutions.
  • Provide clinical operational expertise to the Center for Technology Innovation team, identifying appropriate clinical and operational partners and translating clinical needs into technical requirements.
  • Lead deep discovery sessions, producing comprehensive documentation to inform the design process for local departments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure technology solutions align with human factors, process design, and quality improvement principles.
  • Develop training plans and materials in collaboration with technical and departmental staff.
  • Train support staff from various departments to ensure a proficient understanding of the technology and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Oversee testing of technology solutions and integrated systems to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Produce detailed testing documentation and collaborate with technical teams to address any identified issues.
  • Solicit and organize feedback from end users; provide actionable insights to the core innovation team.
  • Lead assessments of solution transformation, addressing challenges that arise during implementation.
  • Present analytical data insights and findings using appropriate visualization tools.
  • Enable data driven decision making around technology assessment and deployment.
  • Collaborate with partner groups to develop successful transformation plans, facilitating the transfer of long-term support ownership to appropriate teams.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, problem solving, innovation, continuous learning, and a one team mindset.
  • Provide forward thinking technical expertise in current and emerging technologies, trends and best practices.
  • Mentor staff in both technical and soft skills to craft a team of highly competent, consistent, thoughtful, and customer-centric technology experts.
  • Evaluate personnel effectiveness and develop/implement training programs to improve performance.
  • Perform supervisory functions including hiring, discipline, training and development, and prepare performance reviews in accordance with UMMS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Education and Experience

  • ย Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Nursing, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory and/or management experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technology innovation, including development and implementation of internally developed novel solutions.
  • For healthcare applicants: Minimum 5 years of patient-facing clinical experience, with 3 years at an academic medical center. Critical-care experience preferred.
  • For engineering applicants: Minimum 5 years of experience in process improvement/systems engineering, including 3 years in hospital-based environments.
