Job description

Applied Technical Services, LLC, is a leading provider of critical testing, inspection, certification, and compliance services. The company serves clients across a diverse set of large and stable end markets including manufacturing, power generation, aerospace, medical, and defense. ATS was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in Marietta, GA. Today the Company employs nearly 2,100 team members in over 95 locations across the United States. Our purpose is to create a safe and reliable world and our mission is to deliver assurance through precise technical and professional services.  

We are currently seeking a degreed scientist to work in the inorganic analysis section of our Chemistry Department located in our Marietta, GA office.  The Chemistry Department at ATS has a broad range of analytical capabilities. Whether the customer needs to know the composition of a metal alloy or an unknown process contaminant they just found, ATS Chemistry can determine the material composition and identification of their samples.  Our philosophy is "We take a closer look”.

This chemist level position at ATS will primarily involve the analysis of samples using ICP-AES and ICP-MS but may also include analysis using the following methodologies/equipment: XRF, spark OES, LECO combustion analysis and microwave assisted sample digestion.

  • 2-10 years of experience in materials testing or analytical lab setting. Direct experience with ICP-MS and ICP-AES analysis is strongly preferred.
  • Preparation of samples---involves using hand tools as necessary to generate samples of appropriate size.
  • Prepare chemical reagents and solutions to be used in chemical analysis.
  • Operate analytical balances for weighing samples and chemicals.
  • Excellent working knowledge in the operation (practical and theoretical) of ICP-MS and/or ICP-AES instrumentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of materials analysis
  • Good working knowledge of specifications for various metallic material grades.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively on teams by interacting with other scientists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the willingness to solve complex problems using a systematic approach; analyzes situations using different perspectives and makes well-reasoned decisions
  • Experience with data interpretation including the ability to understand patterns and trends within data sets and provide reporting
  • Motivated to meet analysis deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exhibits initiative, curiosity, and a positive attitude on how to get the job done.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
  • Essential to the success in this role will be excellent verbal and written skills in the English language.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft office software
