Director of Transportation

Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools (GCCS) serves more than 1,600 students from PreKโ€“12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school system located in Kansas City, Missouri. Over 97% of our students identify as Latinx, and many are bilingual or English learners. Our network includes Guadalupe Centers Elementary School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers High School.

GCCS grew out of Guadalupe Centersโ€™ educational programs โ€” part of the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the United States since 1919. Our deep community roots shape our mission: to prepare all students academically, socially, and emotionally for college, career, and life success.

Reports To: VP of Support Services and Operations

Summary

The School District Core Data and Transportation Director oversees all aspects of transportation services for the district, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of students to and from school and related activities. They also manage student information systems, provide instruction to system users, analyze system issues, coordinate usage, and produce comprehensive reports.

Transportation Responsibilities
  • Supervises and manages transportation staff, including bus drivers, monitors, dispatchers, mechanics, and administrative personnel.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and training to transportation staff to ensure adherence to district policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Oversees the acquisition, maintenance, and upkeep of the district's fleet of buses, other vehicles, and transportation facilities.
  • Develops and implements preventive maintenance programs to ensure safe and reliable operation of all vehicles.
  • Coordinates with mechanics and outside vendors for repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Develops and maintains efficient bus routes and schedules to optimize transportation services for students.
  • Coordinates with school administrators to accommodate special transportation needs, such as for students with disabilities or extracurricular activities.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing school transportation and prepares annual state claim for transportation funding.
  • Develops and implements safety procedures and protocols to protect the wellโ€‘being of students and staff during transportation activities.
  • Conducts regular safety inspections of buses and facilities to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Develops and manages the transportation department budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring expenditures, and identifying costโ€‘saving opportunities.
  • Procures supplies, equipment, and services necessary for the operation of the transportation department.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for transportationโ€‘related inquiries and concerns from parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders.
Required Skills/Education and Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree or specified technologyโ€‘associated certification.
  • Minimum of 3โ€‘5 years of transportation, logistics, or fleet management experience.
  • Knowledge of school transportation laws and safety standards.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license; CDLโ€‘B with Air Brakes and School Bus Endorsements preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience with student information systems and Core Data reporting.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in Kโ€“12 or charter school transportation.
  • Experience managing contracted transportation vendors.
  • Familiarity with routing software and fleet management systems.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
