Analog Mixed Signal Layout Engineer information

What is the difference between Analog Mixed Signal Layout Engineer vs Digital IC Layout Engineer?

AspectAnalog Mixed Signal Layout EngineerDigital IC Layout Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, knowledge of analog/mixed-signal designBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, focus on digital design
Work EnvironmentDesigning analog/mixed-signal circuits, working closely with analog designersImplementing digital logic layouts, collaborating with digital design teams
Industry UsageSemiconductor companies, ASIC/FPGA design firmsSemiconductor companies, FPGA/ASIC design firms

Analog Mixed Signal Layout Engineers focus on designing layouts for circuits that combine analog and digital signals, requiring specialized knowledge of analog components. Digital IC Layout Engineers primarily work on digital logic layouts, emphasizing high-speed digital circuits. Both roles require strong technical skills and are vital in semiconductor design, but they differ in the type of circuits and design considerations involved.

Job description

The Electrical Controls Engineer is a key member of the ETE engineering group responsible for the hands-on electrical design of automated test systems used to validate complex hydraulic and electronic automatic transmission assemblies and subcomponents. This position requires an engineer who can produce clean, professional electrical schematics and panel layout drawings in AutoCAD, understand how a wide range of sensors operate, and wire them correctly to deliver the right signal type into the control system — including wiring, harness integration, and instrumentation setup. Controls work (PLC/HMI programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting) is also part of the role, with a focus on dynamometer (dyno) control and high-speed data acquisition.

About ETE REMAN

ETE REMAN is the largest independent aftermarket automatic transmission remanufacturer in the United States. Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, we’ve been rebuilding transmissions since 1985 — and we’re still growing strong. With more than 800 team members, ETE REMAN is a place where people can build their career, learn new skills, and be part of a team that wins together.

Why Choose ETE REMAN?

The demand for our transmissions remains strong no matter the economy. Our work reduces waste, keeps vehicles on the road, and helps customers save money.

ETE REMAN is for people who take pride in their work and want to create something real. We’re a team that values quality, honesty, and getting better every single day. You’ll find opportunity here — if you’re ready to learn, grow, and go all-in.

The pace is fast. The expectations are high. And the roadmap? You’ll help draw it. We’re growing quickly, built to last through any market, and still grounded in our family‑owned roots. That means you get the best of both worlds — a tight‑knit, no‑nonsense culture with room to advance and make your mark.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Electrical Design : Create and maintain detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings in AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical preferred), or DraftSight, following consistent standards for symbols, wire numbering, and documentation.
  • Sensor Selection & Signal Wiring : Evaluate how sensors (pressure, temperature, position, proximity, load, speed, Hall effect, etc.) operate and wire them to deliver the correct signal type (4-20mA, 0-10V, digital I/O, thermocouple, RTD, encoder, Hall effect switching/analog output, etc.) into PLCs and data acquisition systems.
  • Error Proofing Implementation: Integrate sensors, barcode scanners, and interlocking logic to prevent assembly errors during the complex transmission build process
  • PLC and HMI Programming : Develop and debug logic for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) (e.g., Allen‑Bradley, Siemens) and Human‑Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to automate assembly line testing validation.
  • System Troubleshooting & Downtime Reduction : Respond to machine faults on the plant floor, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to maintain production uptime
  • Vision Integration : Program and integrate industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, ABB) and vision systems (e.g., Keyence, Cognex) for precise part placement and quality inspection.
  • Commissioning & Startup : Lead the installation, debugging, and initial runoff of new manufacturing equipment
  • Team : Interface and collaborate with Product Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineers, Mechanical Design Engineers, and Maintenance Technicians

The above list reflects general details necessary to describe the principle and essential function of the position and shall not be construed as the only duties that may be assigned to this position.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, ideally with some exposure to industrial controls.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical a plus) for creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Solid understanding of sensor operating principles and signal types (analog current/voltage, digital I/O, thermocouple, RTD, encoder, Hall effect, etc.) and the ability to wire and configure sensors accordingly
  • Knowledge of automotive systems, testing standards, and validation processes
  • Experience with data acquisition tools (NI LabVIEW, TestStand, CANalyzer, or similar)
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and technical reporting skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present findings to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Understand operational theory of automatic transmissions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with transmission, powertrain, or drivetrain testing.
  • Experience with testing equipment specific to automotive transmissions.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electronics, and software used in modern automatic transmissions.
  • Familiar with Cadence OrCAD
