Refrigeration Design Manager – Amtec Inc. – San Antonio, TX Summary

To support rapid growth, our client is in search of a Senior Refrigeration Design Manager to join their San Antonio office team. Our ideal candidate will be able to design commercial and industrial refrigeration and refrigeration control systems, maintain positive relationships with clients and vendors, and lead a team of staff to ensure timely and quality deliverables.

Job Duties
  • Manage, assign/prioritize workloads, lead, mentor, and develop a team of refrigeration design engineers to enhance their skills and performance, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Maintain knowledge and expertise of industry trends in commercial and industrial refrigeration, specifically related to low‑and ultra‑low GWP systems.
  • Collaborate with other refrigeration and technical leaders across the company.
  • Assess and anticipate deliverables, prepare budgets and schedules, and communicate resource requirements to senior management.
  • Represent Client in project meetings covering technical issues, including meetings with clients, utilities, owners, contractors, construction subcontractors, and inspectors.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key clients, understanding their needs to identify opportunities for new projects and services.
  • Maintain responsible control over all refrigeration design activities pertaining to projects and programs, including engineering, quality control, and code compliance.
  • Develop and implement strategic business plans to drive growth in the refrigeration design sector, aligning with overall company goals.
  • Perform site visits and observations to determine compliance with construction documents and resolve design issues during the construction phase.
  • Document production of small and large projects.
  • Participate in conceptual design for specific projects.
  • Prepare and create detailed engineering designs for a variety of building projects including refrigerated warehouses, supermarkets, and retail spaces.
  • Create and maintain AutoCAD and Revit drawing packages.
  • Comply with project schedules, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure work is executed accurately and in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
  • Ensure that design calculations and engineering drawings are constructible, comply with code, and meet customer quality requirements and company standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other directly related engineering field. Other engineering or construction disciplines are considered based on experience and skill set.
  • 10 or more years of directly related professional experience in commercial and industrial refrigeration system design engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Revit is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience managing staff is required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of thermodynamics and the refrigeration cycle.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capabilities, as well as demonstrated high‑quality technical writing skills.
  • Team player with sound business ethics and the ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to achieve project goals and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors to develop a full understanding of building energy systems and their operation.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
  • This position will require travel to project sites on an as‑needed basis.
