Job description

We are partnering with a high-growth Fintech / Consumer / AI startup building the next-generation tax forecasting engine for high-net-worth individuals. The platform provides visibility into tax obligations, simulates outcomes, and identifies strategies to minimize effective tax rates. The team combines deep tax expertise with engineering rigor, applying AI to a domain that has historically resisted automation. As the Founding Tax Analyst, you will shape the foundation of the product and help redefine how complex tax planning is done.

As the Founding Tax Analyst, you will define the core tax intelligence of the platform. You will translate complex federal and state tax laws into accurate, executable frameworks and ensure that the simulation stack produces insights that are legally sound, actionable, and optimized for HNWI clients. This is a hands-on, foundational role, working closely with engineers to systematize and digitize tax rules, while applying AI and prompt engineering to extract actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build tax frameworks from 0 → 1: Translate complex tax rules into structured, natural language frameworks that drive simulations.
  • Be Hands-On: Analyze 1040s and related forms to identify optimization opportunities including equity compensation, AMT, trusts, estates, and multi-entity portfolios.
  • Collaborate with Engineers: Digitize tax rules and implement simulation logic to ensure accurate and actionable outputs.
  • Apply AI & LLMs: Use AI tools and prompt engineering to extract insights and identify areas for optimization.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert: Advise on federal and state tax law, edge cases, and HNWI-specific scenarios.
  • Research & Implement: Design strategies that are legally compliant, financially optimal, and practically implementable.

Why Candidates Should Join

  • Ground-Floor Opportunity: First tax hire, shaping the Tax Technical Team and establishing the foundation of the platform.
  • High-Impact Role: Work at the intersection of tax expertise, Fintech, AI, and software engineering, directly influencing product accuracy and client outcomes.
  • Equity & Compensation: Competitive salary plus equity, aligning your success with company growth.
  • Innovative Team: Collaborate with founders and engineers applying AI to a traditionally manual domain.

Required Experience:

  • 4–8 years in tax preparation, advisory, or accounting for HNWI clients.
  • Deep understanding of AMT, equity compensation, trusts/estates, and multi-entity structures.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex tax documents into structured frameworks that LLMs can follow.
  • Advisory experience with high-income individuals, founders, and executives.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

  • CPA, Tax Attorney (LL.M. in Tax), or accounting/legal background
  • Familiarity with AI, LLMs, or prompt engineering in tax optimization
  • Experience digitizing tax rules, building simulation logic, or automating advisory processes

Skills & Mindset:

  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and able to translate legal rules into actionable guidance
  • Scrappy, hands-on approach; comfortable both in the weeds and at the strategic level
  • Collaborative and able to partner closely with engineering teams

Logistics & Compensation

  • Employment: Full-time, on-site in San Francisco
  • Base Salary: $175K–$200K
  • Equity: 1%+
  • Relocation: Full support provided
  • Visa: No sponsorship (self-acquired only)
