The AML/CFT Analyst I is responsible for monitoring, investigating, and reporting potential money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing, and suspicious activity. This role supports the bank’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti Money Laundering (AML) regulations, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements, and internal policies. The analyst conducts reviews, analyzes customer activity, prepares regulatory filings, and supports fraud and compliance initiatives across the institution. • Analyze customer transactions across multiple banking channels, including deposits, debit cards, ACH, wires, mobile deposits, checks, ATMs, and cash activity to detect money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing, and related financial crimes.
  • Identify unusual activity patterns such as structuring, rapid movement of funds, funnel activity, mule behavior, elder financial exploitation, and anomalous transaction behavior.
  • Conduct full scope AML/CFT investigations by reviewing customer profiles, historical and current activity, expected account behavior, and relevant risk indicators.
  • Apply regulatory guidance, typologies, and internal procedures to determine whether activity warrants escalation or suspicious reporting.
  • Prepare, document, and file complete and timely Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) with clear narratives and supporting analysis in accordance with regulatory deadlines.
  • Perform initial OFAC screening and monitoring, research potential matches, and escalate findings for further review as required.
  • Support bi weekly Section 314(a) information sharing reviews and document results in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Complete Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews for higher risk customers, including verification of customer occupation, business purpose, beneficial ownership, anticipated activity, and risk profile.
  • Review and validate Customer Identification Program (CIP) documentation, track CIP exceptions, and support timely remediation in compliance with internal policy and regulatory standards.
  • Review large cash transactions to ensure accurate aggregation and assist with the preparation and filing of Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) within required timeframes.
  • Analyze cash activity reports and detailed listings to identify unusual or high risk cash behavior requiring escalation or further investigation.
  • Identify and escalate potential elder financial abuse or other vulnerable customer exploitation concerns to management and appropriate internal teams.
  • Respond to subpoenas, law enforcement requests, and Adult Protective Services (APS) inquiries in accordance with custody of records and confidentiality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well documented case files to support regulatory examinations, audits, and internal quality assurance reviews.
  • Maintain logs and tracking reports related to SARs, CTRs, monitoring alerts, and CIP exceptions.
  • Collaborate with Fraud Prevention, Operations, Compliance, and branch staff to resolve alerts, mitigate risk, and support enterprise wide AML and fraud initiatives.
  •  Assist with AML, CFT, and fraud related training and guidance for staff as needed.
  • Identify emerging financial crime trends, typologies, or potential control gaps and escalate observations to management.
