About the team:

The US FinCrime team, a component of Nu’s Global FinCrime Risk Department, is dedicated to the prevention of Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) and sanctions violations. Its core mission is to manage the US AML/CFT and Sanctions program, ensuring regulatory adherence. This includes assessing the execution of related activities and promoting the standardization and efficiency of policies, processes, and systems.

You will be responsible for

In your role as an AML & OFAC Specialist within the AML Governance team, you will assess internal control efficacy and oversee systems supporting our AML/CFT and Sanctions program. Adhering to BSA and OFAC guidelines, your primary responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advisory to the 1LOD and various internal stakeholders on the adherence to the AML/CFT/ OFAC program requirements, FinCEN directives and internal policies and procedures.
  • Assist with updating governing documentation and procedures to guarantee the AML/sanctions program remains accurate, effective, and regulatory defensible.
  • Perform risk-based quality control and quality assurance testing of existing AML and Sanctions controls, documenting conclusions, communicating control weaknesses or gaps and tracking of corrective actions until closure.
  • Conduct scheduled and ad hoc testing of scenario thresholds, sanctions match logic, and detection rules, customer risk rating calibrations and updates, including above-the-line (ATL) and below-the-line (BTL) testing, and any model updates as needed. Work with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform routine monitoring of transaction monitoring tools, sanctions screening filters, validating the proper updates were made to ensure control effectiveness. Perform BSA operational tasks as needed during testing activities.
  • Assist with the implementation of a new transaction monitoring system by assisting with the calibration of rules and procedures and conducting second level review of AML alerts as needed.
  • Support the AML Governance and Quality Control specialist by maintaining accurate, up-to-date model documentation and testing records.
  • Assist with AML and sanctions review of vendor assessments.
  • Data Quality & Reconciliation:Execute data reconciliation checks between core banking systems and compliance applications, document exceptions, and assist with root-cause analysis.
  • Reporting & Documentation:Maintain audit-ready test logs, evidence repositories, and performance dashboards for management and regulatory review.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Partner with AML analytics, 1LOD teams, Compliance, and external vendors to facilitate system updates, support audits, and implement continuous process improvements.
  • Contribute to the development of the monitoring and testing plan, including any Global Program requirements.
  • Ad Hoc Support:Assist with ad hoc requests and tasks from the Partner Bank and other projects assigned by management including international efforts.
We are looking for a person who has Qualifications & Skills
  • A Bachelor's, Master's, or Law degree is required in a discipline such as Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Information Technology, or a Risk Management-related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, ideally within AML, Sanctions, Business analytics, Risk Management, or other control functions.
  • Prior experience in monitoring/testing or quality control roles in AML, Audit or Risk.
  • Prior AML and or KYC investigations experience in the digital asset, payments, and/or Fintech space.
  • Previous experience collaborating with global teams.
Key Skills:
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to translate complex technical data into actionable business insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with stakeholders across various teams and seniority levels.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for Artificial Intelligence and coding skills (e.g., SQL, Python, Scala, or similar programming languages) are a plus.
  • Willingness to relocate to Miami, FL
