How much do ambulance transfer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for ambulance transfer in the United States is $16.86, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $13.70 and $18.75 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in ambulance transfer roles, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in ambulance transfer roles often encounter challenges such as coordinating with multiple healthcare teams, managing time-sensitive schedules, and ensuring patient safety during transit. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are crucial for handling unexpected delays or changes in patient condition. Many teams rely on standardized protocols and ongoing training to help staff stay prepared for emergencies and streamline handovers between facilities, making adaptability and teamwork essential traits for success.

What jobs can paramedics transition to?

Paramedics can transition to roles such as emergency medical technicians (EMTs), emergency room nurses, medical dispatchers, or healthcare administrators. Their skills in patient care, emergency response, and medical procedures are valuable in various healthcare and emergency services positions.

What is the difference between Ambulance Transfer vs Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?

AspectAmbulance TransferEmergency Medical Technician (EMT)
CredentialsBasic EMT certification, CPR, and sometimes advanced certificationsBasic EMT certification, CPR, and ongoing training
Work EnvironmentNon-emergency patient transport, hospitals, nursing homesEmergency scenes, ambulances, hospitals
Employer & IndustryAmbulance services, hospitals, private transfer companiesAmbulance services, emergency response teams

Ambulance Transfer primarily involves non-emergency patient transport between facilities or homes, requiring basic EMT certification. In contrast, EMTs respond to emergency scenes and provide pre-hospital care. Both roles require similar certifications but differ mainly in work environment and scope of emergency response.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ambulance Transfer professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ambulance Transfer professional, you need a solid understanding of patient transport procedures, basic life support skills, and appropriate medical certifications such as EMT or paramedic credentials. Familiarity with ambulance equipment, patient lifting devices, and electronic patient care reporting systems is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help ensure patient comfort and effective coordination during transfers. These abilities are crucial for delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care during non-emergency patient transport.

How much do ambulance drivers make?

In New Jersey, ambulance drivers typically earn between $15 and $20 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $31,000 to $41,000. Factors such as experience, certifications, and employer can influence pay rates, and the role often requires CPR and EMT certification.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

In the context of ambulance transfer, high-paying roles such as experienced paramedics or emergency medical services (EMS) directors can earn around $2000 per day, especially with overtime, specialized skills, or in high-demand areas. These positions often require advanced certifications, extensive experience, and working in high-pressure environments. Most ambulance transfer roles pay less than this daily rate, but top-tier emergency medical professionals can reach or exceed it through additional shifts or specialized responsibilities.

Who is the highest paid EMT?

The highest paid Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) typically work in specialized roles such as paramedics or advanced EMTs, with salaries reaching up to $50,000 to $70,000 annually depending on experience, location, and certifications. Paramedics generally earn more than basic EMTs due to additional training and responsibilities. Salary variations are influenced by factors like work environment, shift differentials, and state or regional demand.

What are ambulance transfer services?

Ambulance transfer services involve the transportation of patients from one location to another using an ambulance, typically for non-emergency medical reasons. These services are often used for moving patients between hospitals, to or from care facilities, or for scheduled medical appointments when the patient requires medical supervision during travel. Ambulance transfers can be staffed by paramedics or other trained medical personnel to ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the journey.
