Amazon Robotics is seeking skilled Specialist Technicians to oversee the installation, maintenance, and fabrication of industrial equipment. As a Specialist Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of machinery, mechanical equipment, and machine shop operations. This includes installing new equipment, performing regular services and maintenance procedures, troubleshooting equipment breakdowns, and performing precision machining tasks in a manufacturing machine shop environment.
Some positions within this role will focus heavily on machinist duties, including operating manual and CNC machine tools to fabricate, modify, and repair precision parts and components for production equipment

You will work in a machine shop setting producing parts from engineering drawings, performing setups, selecting tooling, and verifying dimensional accuracy.
To ensure success, you should have advanced mechanical knowledge of industrial machinery, machining fundamentals, excellent troubleshooting skills, and good time-management skills. A top-class Specialist Technician boosts production by ensuring all equipment functions correctly, receives regular maintenance, and that precision parts are fabricated to specification.
Key job responsibilities
- Install new equipment and understand technical manuals, read blueprints, and purchase replacement parts necessary to make equipment repairs.
- Service and maintain equipment including motors, conveyor systems, transmission systems, and production-related equipment.
- Disassemble/reassemble equipment such as gearboxes, cylinders, pumps, valves, etc. and repair/replace worn or defective parts

Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Troubleshoot PLC systems and other control systems and install wiring systems for power and control. Troubleshoot, install, and repair AC/DC motors, starters, relays, and drives.
- Inspect and assess the functionality of production machines.
- Troubleshoot and repair all standard electrical components and detect minor equipment problems and correct them before they become major issues.
- Adjust mechanical parts using hand and machine tools.
- Fabricate parts for repairs and machine upgrades.
- Set up and operate manual and CNC lathes and mills to fabricate precision parts and components from engineering drawings.
- Select appropriate tooling, fixturing, speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for various materials and operations.
- Conduct in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, CMM/Romer Arm).
- Perform preventive maintenance per planned schedules. Clean and lubricate machinery

Inspect equipment operating conditions. Identify root causes of equipment problems.
- Communicate with the production team and maintain a clean work area.
- Prepare and submit maintenance reports.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance procedures.
- Help develop and implement the budget for the maintenance department.
- Maintain inventory records for equipment and supplies.
- Fix potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.

You are proficient in the use of hand tools such as torque wrenches, measuring equipment, multimeters, etc. relevant to your specific role

You are proficient in the use of at least one specialized manufacturing equipment such as but not limited to manual lathes/mills, CNC lathes/mills, welding machines, CMM/Romer Arm inspection equipment, or 3D printers. You communicate with engineers, peers, and other stakeholders using technical language and provide process feedback on your assigned products. You are skilled in reading and interpreting engineering documents like drawings using GD&T, schematics, or interface documents.

You follow industry best practices and data to make technical decisions to solve common problems. You set up and run specialized manufacturing equipment to fabricate products. You may perform first article fabrications of simple products from engineering drawings, models, or industry specifications.

You perform in-process inspections to verify the quality of your work for specified drawing dimensions (e.g., flatness, true position, custom gauging). You work primarily with industry standard raw materials like aluminum alloys, steels, polymers, carbon fiber, laser sintered materials and are learning about specialty materials for potential applicability to your job functions (e.g., various steel heat treated alloy usages, titanium and nickel-based alloys, appropriate additive manufacturing materials for different jobs, composite materials, etc.). You are proficient in applicable machine-specific software for role (CAD/CAM software, 3D printing software, precision inspection CMM software, etc.)

You also may assist in the training of peers on equipment you are proficient in.
You maintain shop organization and cleanliness standards. You participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize machining processes, reduce scrap, and improve cycle times.
