Job description

Help us bring Alexa+ to every customer, in every language, in every country.
We build the platforms that make Alexa+ truly global: the feature gating infrastructure that controls how new experiences reach customers, and the multilingual speech and language systems that let Alexa understand and speak any language, anywhere. Our infrastructure handles hundreds of millions of feature access checks per second and serves customers across more than 20 languages and dialects, and we're just getting started. Our mission this year is to launch Alexa+ across all current Alexa markets, expand into a new wave of countries, and scale our speech stack from a few dozen to over a hundred languages and dialects with multiple engines for speech recognition and synthesis

As an SDE on this team you'll own systems that millions of customers depend on every day, and you'll ship the foundations that make multilingual AI a reality.
If you love distributed systems, large platforms at scale, and the messy interesting problems of building software that respects how the world actually communicates, this is the team.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and build distributed services and platforms behind two of Alexa+'s core international pillars: feature gating infrastructure and the multilingual speech stack.
- Own the full software lifecycle for high scale services running across multiple regions, from design through deployment, operations, and iteration.
- Drive architecture decisions that unblock multilingual experiences, including language negotiation, model routing, third party speech engine integration, cohort based experimentation, and feature gating at country and language granularity.
- Partner with science, platform, and product teams across Alexa to land initiatives that span organizations.
- Apply Generative AI tooling deeply in your day to day engineering across code, design, review, and operations, and help raise the bar for how the team uses these tools.
- Set the technical direction for new capabilities and mentor junior engineers on the team.
- Contribute to operational excellence, including on call, alarming, performance tuning, and customer impact triage on Tier 1 services.
A day in the life
You're shipping to millions of customers across the globe. One day you might be designing the API that decides whether a household's Alexa+ responds in English or Spanish. The next, you're integrating a new speech engine to launch in a new language

You'll write code, review CRs, partner with senior engineers on architecture, and work with program managers to land launches that span teams. You'll spend real time in agentic AI tooling, since most of our production code lands with AI in the loop. You'll also own services that run at near perfect availability, and keep them that way as we grow.
About the team
We build the foundational platforms that make Alexa+ globally available, and that bring multilingual experiences to customers everywhere, including the millions of multilingual households inside the US

We own the feature gating systems that power experimentation and controlled launches across all of Alexa+, and the multilingual speech and language services behind language identification, machine translation, and language and dialect management. Our work shows up directly in the experience of every Alexa+ customer, whether they live in Madrid, Berlin, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, or a Spanish speaking household in Los Angeles. We're a small, senior, fast moving team that values deep ownership, technical judgment, and operational excellence.

We move fast, write a lot of code, lean heavily into GenAI, and keep work life balance real.
