Job description

Amazon Robotics is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Test Engineer to own the technical test strategy for a robotics product vertical. You will select what gets tested, why, and how often, and your findings will improve the design and safety of our robotics systems.
This is a hands-on mechanical design role with technical leadership scope. You will design test fixtures and methods yourself, as well as work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to define, scope, architect, and execute testing. You will work with minimal direction on programs while partnering with product development engineers to build test strategy and requirements.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the test strategy for product lines: work with development teams to define what needs to be tested, why, and at what cadence.
- Take tests and fixtures from concept through result, designing the mechanical hardware and converting data into recommendations that improve product design.
- Partner with and guide cross-functional engineering and technical efforts to build, verify, and execute testing.
- Translate incomplete or ambiguous design requirements into testable criteria through all stages of the development process.
- Improve test methods, coverage, and automation, and mentor engineers on test design, engineering fundamentals, and technical leadership.
- Build and execute certified safety testing, certifying under the supervision of a regulatory body for robotics safety standards, demonstrating safety for new product launches.
A day in the life
Your work spans design of experiments for proof of concept and design verification, functional and reliability testing, life and environmental testing, and safety verification. A typical week mixes bench time in the lab with the judgment calls that shape a test program: establishing how to approach testing against identified design risks, reviewing test readiness with hardware development, and turning data into recommendations design teams act on.
Amazon offers a full range of benefits that support you and eligible family members, including domestic partners. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment. The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:
1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
2. Maternity and Parental Leave Options
3. Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan
If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures

- Experience communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- 7+ years of experience in test fixture or new product development.

- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
