Because at UKG, your work matters-and so do you. About the Team: We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Development team. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-based solutions used by enterprises worldwide.

You will play a key role in improving software development and deployment practices by building strong automation, infrastructure, and observability foundations. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work across the full software development lifecycle, from design to deployment and ongoing operations. You will collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure systems are efficient, resilient, and easy to maintain.

About the Role: Development Engineering: Design, build, and maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using GitHub Actions (automation for build and deployment workflows) and similar tools. Cloud Infrastructure: Develop and manage cloud infrastructure across platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure. Containerization and Orchestration: Build and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes to support scalable and portable deployments.

Security and Access: Implement secure access practices including identity and access management, secrets management, and Workload Identity Federation (secure access without long-lived credentials). Automation: Use tools such as Ansible and Python to automate configuration, provisioning, and operational processes. Version Control and GitOps: Apply Git-based workflows and GitOps practices (managing infrastructure through version control) to improve deployment consistency and traceability.

Observability: Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using tools such as Grafana and Prometheus to ensure service health and performance. Infrastructure Reliability: Improve system reliability through practices such as high availability design, disaster recovery planning, and performance optimization. Technical Leadership: Lead design discussions, review code, and guide engineers to maintain high standards in software development and Development practices.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures. Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions and improve developer experience. About You: Basic Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in software engineering or DevOps engineering.

Hands-on experience with continuous integration and delivery tools such as GitHub Actions. Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure. Experience with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.

Proficiency in Python and experience with automation tools such as Ansible. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong understanding of version control systems such as Git and modern Development practices including GitOps.

Experience with observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus. Front End experience - Strong TypeScript experience React expertise (Backstage frontend plugin development is React-heavy) Experience building internal tooling UX/workflows Backend Node.js / Express experience Experience designing APIs and service integrations Understanding of authentication/authorization patterns (OAuth, OIDC, RBAC) Preferred Qualifications Experience with continuous delivery, release management, and deployment strategies. Familiarity with security practices such as vulnerability management and compliance

Experience working with distributed systems and production operations. Knowledge of agile development methodologies. Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team growth.

Commitment to continuous learning and improving engineering practices. Experience developing AI: Prompts, Plugins, MCP Servers, Claude Experience with Backstage Portal: TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js Experience with the Backstage scaffolding tool to automate the creation of new microservices and repositories.
