What is an Amazon Relay Owner Operator?

An Amazon Relay Owner Operator is an independent truck driver or small fleet owner who contracts with Amazon to transport freight using the Amazon Relay load board. Operators use their own trucks to haul Amazon freight between fulfillment centers, distribution hubs, and delivery locations. They must meet Amazon's requirements, including proper licensing, insurance, and vehicle specifications. This role allows for flexibility in scheduling and the opportunity to run a trucking business while leveraging Amazon’s freight network.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an Amazon Relay Owner Operator?

To excel as an Amazon Relay Owner Operator, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), excellent driving skills, a clean safety record, and the ability to manage business operations. Familiarity with transportation management systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and Amazon Relay’s load-booking platform is essential. Strong time management, self-motivation, and customer service skills help set you apart in this role. These competencies ensure safe and efficient delivery, compliance with industry regulations, and successful operation of your independent trucking business within Amazon’s network.

What are typical work schedules like for Amazon Relay Owner Operators?

As an Amazon Relay Owner Operator, you generally have the flexibility to choose your loads and set your own work schedule, allowing you to balance personal commitments with business goals. However, you'll need to carefully plan routes and delivery times to meet Amazon's on-time requirements, which can sometimes mean working nights, weekends, or holidays depending on demand. Most Owner Operators find that their workload varies week to week based on seasonal demands and available freight. Efficient time management and proactive scheduling are key to maximizing income and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. While the role offers independence, meeting deadlines and delivering excellent service remain essential for ongoing success.

  • Enterprise-grade systems for operating the largest vehicle reconditioning facilities in the US, with workflow automation covering everything mechanical, electrical, and cosmetic.
  • Early adoption and customization of AI tools to optimize developer efficiency and experience.

And much, much more…

About the team and position

Our Product team is at the center of that growth, and we are hiring. We are an AI-first technology organization that moves fast, operates with high ownership, and builds things that matter at scale. If you want to grow not just as a Product Manager but as a leader and business-builder, Carvana is the place for you.

We are hiring Product Managers across several teams in Los Angeles and Phoenix, spanning mid-level and senior roles. While each team has its own focus area, we look for the same foundational qualities across all of them: strong product instincts, a data-driven mindset, an AI-first approach to work, and the drive to own outcomes end to end.

The Teams

Depending on your background and interests, you may be considered for one or more of the following teams:

  • Nurture: Lead nurture communications on an AI-first team, guiding customers from early interest through purchase using machine learning, personalization, and experimentation across email, SMS, and push.
  • Engineering Horizontals - Identity, Experimentation & Data Platform: Own the foundational platforms that power customer trust, product innovation, and regulatory compliance, including authentication, consent management, data privacy APIs, and experimentation infrastructure, as well as the strategic shift in how Carvana consumes and governs data through enterprise adoption of Sigma, migration of legacy SQL Server assets to Snowflake, and ownership of the unit economics of the data platform.
  • Inventory Workforce and Vehicle Management: Support the design and development of a new collection of AI and Machine Learning vehicle routing and advanced manufacturing solutions. The goal, automate the entire reconditioning process while optimizing for speed, cost and quality.

What you'll be doing

While responsibilities vary by team, all roles share a common set of expectations:

  • Drive the product roadmap and lead end-to-end product development informed by customer research, analytics, and business needs.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Analytics, and business stakeholders to scope, prioritize, and ship high-impact initiatives.
  • Own experimentation and measurement, actively interpreting results and translating insights into continuous product improvements.
  • Apply AI tools as a core part of how you work, accelerating research, synthesis, prototyping, and day-to-day execution.
  • Write clear requirements, project briefs, and documentation to align stakeholders and enable effective engineering execution.
  • Use data to size opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and make decisions.
  • Take full ownership of your product area and be accountable for the long-term trajectory of key business outcomes such as sales, gross profit, customer satisfaction, and cost per unit sold.

What you should have/know

  • A bachelor's degree in STEM, Economics, Finance, Business, Design, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of product, product analytics, or related experience for mid-level consideration; four or more years for senior-level consideration.
  • Outcome-oriented and data-driven decision making, backed by expertise in metrics, analytics, and tools such as SQL, Tableau, Looker, or Sigma.
  • An AI-first approach to product work, with hands-on experience using AI tools for research, analysis, prototyping, and day-to-day productivity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and project management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and absorb technical concepts and communicate them effectively to non-technical audiences.
  • Deep product experience at one or more highly successful and ideally high-growth companies.
  • Strong opinions about consumer products and a developed sense of product taste.
  • Experience with experiment design and interpretation.
  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes for the sake of the team and our customers.
  • Self-motivated with a sense of humor and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambitious environment.

It would be great if you also have

  • A genuine passion for AI and its potential to transform product experiences, not just familiarity with the tools but a curiosity about where the technology is headed and how to apply it creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing, building, and deploying enterprise software solutions, with particular experience in areas such as industrial plant design, process management platforms, and automotive or supply chain manufacturing.
  • A genuine passion for AI and its potential to transform product experiences, not just familiarity with the tools but a curiosity about where the technology is headed and how to apply it creatively.
  • Hands-on experience building or iterating on AI-driven products, including features powered by machine learning, LLMs, RAG, tool-calling, or agent frameworks.
  • Knowledge of data science best practices and the ability to collaborate closely with data scientists and ML engineers to shape model-informed product decisions.
  • Strong UX instincts and the ability to anticipate user needs and pain points, especially in AI-assisted or conversational experiences.
  • Experience with agile methodology and product strategy and roadmapping.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Sigma, Looker, or Tableau for independent data exploration.
  • Background in automotive, e-commerce, marketplaces, retail, or similarly complex operating environments.

What we'll offer in return

  • Full-Time position with a competitive salary and Carvana stock compensation.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits.
  • 401K with company match.
  • A multitude of perks including student loan payments, discounts on vehicles, benefits for your pets, and much more.
  • A great wellness program to keep you healthy and happy both physically and mentally.
  • Access to opportunities to expand your skill set and share your knowledge with others across the organization.
  • A company culture focused on high performance and bar-raising, with vast opportunity to learn and grow.
