Overview

Under general supervision, the candidate is responsible for the development, maintenance, and publishing of Protection & Control (P&C) standards for Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Substations. This role drives technical consistency across PPL Corporation’s diverse operating companies, including PPL Electric Utilities, Rhode Island Energy, Louisville Gas and Electric, and Kentucky Utilities. The candidate must be a safety-conscious, self-motivated professional who can apply innovative problem-solving and creative thinking to develop novel engineering solutions. Superior communication and presentation skills are essential, as the candidate will frequently consult with cross-functional teams to implement these standards.


Responsibilities

o    Develop, maintain, and update engineering (P&C) standards for T&D substations to align with industry best practices. 
o    Develop, maintain, and update standard relay files and logic diagrams. 
o    Test control logic in a laboratory environment. 
o    Identify improvement opportunities and recommend enhanced methods. 
o    Research and benchmark industry trends, including emerging technologies. 
o    Maintain active engagement in industry events and incorporate relevant best practices and new technologies.
o    Develop RFPs and evaluate proposals from consultants supporting standards engineering work on behalf of PPL. 
o    Manage engineering contractors as needed and work effectively within a diverse team environment. 
o    Visit manufacturer facilities, as requested, to inspect and accept new substation equipment. 
o    Collaborate with project teams to review standard deviation requests arising during design or construction. 
o    Serve as a technical consultant on applicable codes, regulations, and company standards. 
o    Reinforce a strong safety culture through leadership and constructive behaviors. 
o    Perform other duties and projects as assigned. 
o    Comply with all applicable policies and standards.
o    Travel is required on an occasional basis

Engineer II:

- ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.

Engineer III:
- ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 5 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 3 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience.  Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.

Principal Engineer:

- ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 10 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience.  Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.
