Job description

Assist Lead/operations manager in all functions of the shipping department to reach company defined objectives. This position is responsible for completing daily schedule. Move finished product and filling orders. Verify quantity, quality, labels and addresses of products and items of merchandise ready for shipment at manufacturing or commercial establishment: count, weigh, measure or examine packaging and contents of items for conformance to company specifications. Compare items packed with customer’s order and other identifying data.

What You Will Be Doing:

Communicate effectively with manager and other employees regarding problems, schedule, late orders, shortages, inspection, and completion of items (communicate and work with production scheduling to ensure workloads are within capacities).

Sort, label and move product to correct location.

Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

Operate forklift or use hand truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

Load, unload and move material within or near plant, yard or work site performing any combination of the following duties: read work order or follow oral instruction to ascertain material or containers to be moved.

Load live docked carriers/trucks and write down time trucks arrived.

Stretch wrap skids.

Work closely with other production departments to make sure daily shipping needs are met.

Assist with training new shipping employees to current/updated standards

Problem solving to better utilize current floor space.

Call freight carriers and arrange pick-up.

Increase output and reduce freight damage.

Fill-in where needed when short staffed.

Communicate effectively with other employees and departments regarding daily operations, problems, schedule, orders, and completion of items.
