Job description

Do you want to build the design systems, AI-powered automation, and creative tooling that shape how millions of customers experience Amazon's financial products? Amazon Payment Products is seeking a Senior Design Technologist to own the technical intersection of visual design, design systems, and marketing automation across our portfolio-from Prime Visa and Amazon Store Card to rewards programs and installment partnerships.
At Amazon Payment Products, we manage a diverse portfolio of financial products serving tens of millions of customers worldwide. Our design and marketing teams work across campaigns, product experiences, and lifecycle touchpoints spanning email, homepage, push notifications, and partner channels-constantly pushing boundaries to create new products, new partnerships, and market-leading features that simplify our customers' financial experiences. We collaborate daily with visual and UX designers, marketers, product managers, brand partners, and engineering teams in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
As a Senior Design Technologist on this team, you will drive the intersection of design systems, GenAI-powered marketing automation, and creative tooling. You will build the infrastructure that enables our marketing and design teams to produce high-quality, on-brand creative assets with greater speed and consistency-replacing manual production pipelines with scalable automation, embedding brand compliance directly into tooling so inconsistencies are caught automatically rather than through manual review, creating Figma-to-code tooling that compresses development timelines, and governing how our design organization adopts AI tools. You will serve as the technical bridge between our design organization, marketing teams, and engineering partners, turning ambiguous automation concepts into tangible experiences that teams can evaluate, test, and ship.
This role requires hands-on technical execution and strategic leadership. You'll implement AI technologies, architect creative production infrastructure, build reusable prototyping frameworks, and develop reference implementations that raise the bar for how the team builds and delivers AI-powered solutions. You will define and optimize performance metrics for AI-driven workflows, influence technical approaches across partner teams, and mentor technologists and engineers to scale design technology practices across the organization.
You bring deep experience bridging design and engineering. You're proficient in React, Python, and front-end technologies, and you've built or governed design systems at organizational scale. You're comfortable with ambiguity, you influence across teams without direct authority, and you care as much about making your teammates faster as you do about shipping your own work. You're passionate about solving real problems for real customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and execute the design technology strategy for Amazon Payment Products, ensuring compliance with product design systems and broader brand standards, and driving alignment with cross-functional design organizations
- Build automated quality frameworks that detect visual and interaction inconsistencies across customer-facing surfaces, reducing reliance on manual compliance reviews and preventing brand drift before it reaches customers
- Architect scalable creative production infrastructure that embeds style guide compliance into tooling and workflows, enabling marketing teams to produce on-brand assets at scale without production agency dependency
- Design and implement GenAI-powered workflows for lifecycle marketing automation across all credit products and programs, enabling templated asset production across email, homepage, push notifications, and partner channels spanning five lifecycle stages
- Build functional prototypes and proof-of-concept integrations between design systems, agentic AI tooling, and marketing platforms to validate automation concepts before full engineering investment
- Lead cross-functional initiatives with marketing, brand, UX design, and engineering teams-translating ambiguous automation concepts into tangible interactive experiences
- Establish performance metrics and quality frameworks for AI-driven design and marketing workflows, presenting strategy and results to senior leadership
- Mentor and educate the team, raising the technical bar for design system implementation and creative technology across the organization
- Create and maintain Figma-to-code pipelines that reduce UI development cycle times and democratize access to high-quality prototypes
- Define and govern how design teams use AI tooling-establishing evaluation frameworks for generative AI tools, building Figma plugins that accelerate productivity, and creating standards for how AI-generated assets move into production
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of front-end technologist, engineer, or UX prototyper experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- Have coding samples in front end programming languages
- Experience developing visually polished, engaging, and highly fluid UX prototypes
- Experience collaborating with UX, Product, and technical partners
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of databases and AWS database services: ElasticSearch, Redshift, DynamoDB
- Experience with machine learning (ML) tools and methods
- Experience with financial services, payments or e-commerce
- Experience with Figma and the Adobe CS suite: XD, Photoshop, Illustrator. InDesign, Dreamweaver, Premiere and After Effects
- Experience working with marketing tools including email, web analytics, CRM, and marketing automation platforms
- Experience working and communicating with multiple stakeholders and cross functional teams including direct and channel marketing, solution architect teams, product management and account management teams
