Job description

Amazon's Intermodal (AZIM) team is looking for a strategic, analytically-minded leader to join as a Senior Supply Chain Manager focused on intermodal network optimization. This is a high-impact role responsible for driving cost efficiency, operational performance, and strategic supply decisions across Amazon's intermodal network - spanning drayage operations, rail partnerships, equipment utilization, and mode optimization.
The ideal candidate combines deep analytical capability with the ability to set strategic direction, is comfortable influencing cross-functional partners and holding external providers accountable, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where data-driven decisions directly impact network cost and service reliability. This role requires someone who can both identify the "so what" from complex data and drive initiatives from concept through execution.
Key job responsibilities
Network Cost & Supply Optimization
-Develop and drive supply mix strategies that optimize cost, service, and capacity across Amazon's intermodal network
-Identify and execute initiatives to improve network efficiency - including drayage optimization, mode selection, carrier mix, and equipment utilization
-Build business cases for strategic investments and operational changes with quantified financial impact
Performance Management & Partner Accountability
-Monitor key performance indicators including transit time, on-time delivery, dwell, equipment ratios, and cost-per-unit metrics
-Own escalation and resolution processes for service failures, compliance gaps, and contractual disputes with external partners
Data-Driven Strategy & Insights
-Conduct deep-dive analyses on network performance data - including lane-level metrics, cost drivers, capacity utilization, and operational bottlenecks
-Translate analytical findings into strategic recommendations that influence network design, sourcing decisions, and operational improvements
Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence
-Partner with Product, Tech, and Finance to translate operational insights into product requirements, success metrics, and automation priorities
-Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing on contract strategy, providing data-driven inputs to support negotiation positions
Executive Communication & Reporting
-Develop and present weekly/monthly performance reviews and strategic recommendations to senior leadership
-Author whitepapers and strategy documents that articulate network optimization opportunities, financial impact, and recommended actions
A day in the life
Analyze network cost and performance dashboards to identify emerging trends, cost anomalies, or service degradation requiring action
Conduct deep dives on lane-level supply mix decisions - evaluating drayage vs. OTR trade-offs, carrier allocation, and capacity constraints
Lead performance review discussions with transportation partners to address service gaps and agree on corrective action plans
Partner with Product and Tech teams on roadmap priorities - translating operational pain points into product requirements
Develop strategy documents and business cases for network optimization initiatives, quantifying savings and implementation paths
Collaborate with Operations teams on execution challenges related to ramp congestion, equipment positioning, and carrier coordination
About the team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of program or project management experience
- 5+ years of supply chain experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

- 2+ years of driving process improvements experience
- Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field
