Job description

As a Sr. Construction Manager within Global Engineering Services (GES) North America (NA) Design & Construction (D&C), you are Amazon's senior owner's representative responsible for the autonomous end-to-end delivery of complex construction projects - including large-scale new builds, retrofits, and expansions for sortation centers, delivery stations, and auxiliary buildings that power Amazon's logistics network.
You operate with a high degree of independence, executing day-to-day operations autonomously and routinely delivering the right outcomes with limited guidance - even when project strategy is not yet well-defined. You deliver a mix of tactical and strategic initiatives that impact multiple teams and/or geographies in support of significant business objectives

You own design oversight, external partner selection, contract negotiations, and project procurement - and you are accountable for the full performance of your external project management partners, architects, design consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors.
Beyond project delivery, you contribute to developing Amazon's internal and external construction networks, drive best practices across the organization, and are learning to force multiply - elevating the performance of the teams and partners around you. You write effective narratives and present complex decisions and trade-offs to Directors and VPs. You actively recruit, mentor, and develop other construction managers.
This role requires 60% regional travel on a yearly basis

When not traveling, you must have availability to work from a corporate office. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations listed. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Project & Construction Management
- Oversee end-to-end project management services, design services, and external partner performance for complex projects; contribute to significantly complex projects as part of a team
- Serve as Amazon's senior owner's representative - the primary integrator between construction execution, design, and internal Amazon stakeholders across operations, equipment, IT, and facilities
- Develop project strategies and ensure appropriate resources are allocated to execute in accordance with those strategies
- Oversee design and engineering of complex projects, including design evaluations, design conformance reviews, and value engineering assessments
- Monitor project performance metrics, anticipate roadblocks and risks, manage escalations, and ensure corrective actions are taken
- Resolve complex issues and find a path forward in difficult situations; make trade-off decisions between short-term and long-term needs and defend those decisions to internal stakeholders
- Assess project performance through KPIs for safety, quality, cost, schedule, and sustainability; develop measurable targets and verifiable milestones
Budget, Schedule & Contract Management
- Own project budgets and oversee spend approvals across all assigned projects
- Lead external partner selection, contract negotiations, and project procurement functions
- Review, analyze, and approve or challenge cost and time change requests submitted by external project teams

- Ensure contracts are fit for purpose, cost-effective, and incorporate appropriate service level agreements
External Partner & Stakeholder Management
- Align delivery from external project managers, architects, design consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors in line with Amazon priorities
- Hold external project managers accountable for timely accomplishment of deliverables; provide guidance and escalate as needed
- Support crucial relationships and lead negotiations of agreements with customers, suppliers, and external partners

- Contribute to developing Amazon's internal and external construction networks
Communication & Reporting
- Manage construction meetings effectively; drive detailed discussions and achieve high-level alignment and consensus across increasingly diverse stakeholder groups (legal, regulatory, operations, engineering, finance, external industry groups, etc.)
- Write effective narratives and present complex decisions, trade-offs, and potential solutions to Directors and VPs
