Application deadline: Aug 23, 2026
We are looking for a passionate Senior Software Development Engineer to drive our device software into the next generation. We need someone who can support our current product line while driving innovation for Devices software features. To excel in this role, you'll need to be a seasoned engineer with deep technical expertise in building and shipping high-quality software.

You'll be making crucial technical decisions on architecture, design, implementation, and trade-offs, balancing complexity, performance, and delivery timelines.
In this position, you'll collaborate with local and worldwide teams to shape the future of Amazon's device observability ecosystem. Your focus will be on designing and building the common capabilities that enable Amazon Devices teams to understand how customers use devices, applications, and services and transform those observations into actionable business intelligence. You'll lead engineering efforts across our interconnected capability layers, including Device Engagement Metrics & Insights, providing standardized device instrumentation, engagement metrics, and customer journey instrumentation across all device families.
Our mission is to provide trusted observability, customer intelligence, and decision support that helps teams build better customer experiences, accelerate product decisions, and grow the Amazon Devices ecosystem

As our Senior Software Development Engineer, you'll play a key role in this mission, partnering with teams across Fire TV, Alexa, E-readers, Tablets, Ring, Blink, Eero, and Amazon to capture device interactions, application usage, setup experiences, and engagement signals that power business reporting, product health, and cross-device insights.
If you're passionate about large-scale data systems, enjoy tackling complex technical challenges at the intersection of device telemetry and customer intelligence, and want to make a real impact on how Amazon understands and improves the device experience for millions of customers, we want to hear from you.
Key job responsibilities
**Technical Strategy & Execution **
- Own the technical roadmap for device observability infrastructure, provisioning, and lifecycle features across Amazon's devices portfolio
- Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant provisioning workflows and telemetry pipelines supporting the devices fleet at scale
- Partner with teams across Fire TV, Tablet, eReaders, Alexa, Ring, and Blink on firmware strategy and instrumentation architecture for collecting device signals
- Lead incident response, reduce provisioning failures, and improve time-to-production metrics
- Define and monitor KPIs driving consistency and reliability across a multi-device portfolio
**Cross-Functional Collaboration & Mentorship**
- Partner with Principal Engineers, Senior SDEs, and SDMs to define technical standards and best practices
- Influence technical direction aligned with broader Devices organization objectives
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and architecture deep dives
**Operational Excellence & Innovation**
- Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment automation
- Champion system reliability, reduce toil, and balance delivery with technical debt reduction
- Advocate for new technologies and methodologies that raise the engineering bar
**Business Impact & Communication **
- Translate business requirements into technical designs with clear milestones
- Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs through written narratives and design documents
- Build stakeholder trust through consistent, high-quality delivery
A day in the life
You will be the technical leader responsible for service design, development, and operations. You will brainstorm new ideas and work on forward looking architectures and design with Principal Engineers and other Senior Software Engineers. You will architect, analyse, design, develop, test, and deploy software features and fix defects

You will participate and lead in sprint planning and daily scrum, break down technical work, identify technical blockers, and navigate solutions. You will mentor team members. You will partner with your managers, other technical leaders across the org to achieve a desired technical consensus.

You will author docs to communicate vision, proposals and designs.
About the team
The Device Engagement Metrics team serves as the trusted foundation for understanding device experiences and customer behavior. We build and maintain high-quality, business-critical measurement systems that give product lines - across Fire TV, Tablet, eReaders, Alexa, Ring, and Blink - the signals they need to create seamless experiences that integrate into and enhance customers' lives.
Through a horizontal, privacy-centric approach to data collection and metrics definition, we provide a scalable, consistent framework that enables leaders to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and make strategic decisions - with meaningful comparisons and analysis across all device portfolios
