This position is responsible for providing general housekeeping and custodial services for the Facilities and Maintenance Department.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Requires the ability to read a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures related to the job of Custodian.  Requires the ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before other with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and a well-modulated voice. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Incumbent must possess the ability to utilize with mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages; and determine time and weight. 

REASONING ABILITY 

Incumbent must possess the ability to learn and understand basic principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to the job as Custodian. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and tools such as stripping machines, vacuum cleaners, carpet machine and high-speed buffer, etc. Must be physically able to work, move or carry objects or material. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb or balance. The incumbent frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Minimum Experience:  

Three to six months of custodial experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.  

Certifications, Licenses: 

  • Must have dependable transportation. 
  • A pre-employment criminal background check is required.

GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned. 

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming them. 
  • Gather and empty trash. 
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms. 
  • Clean windows, partitions, counter tops and mirrors, using soapy water or cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. 
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines and equipment. 
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications. 
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets. 
  • Strip, seal, finish and polish floors. 
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. 
  • Inspects grounds surrounding building and picks up trash. 
  • Cleans up areas where people have become ill and transfers biohazard material for disposal. 
  • Performs other related duties to ensure safe and sanitary building conditions. 

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position has no fiscal responsibilities.
