Description

Central Garden & Pet is seeking a Business Development Manager, Pet eCommerce to drive profitable growth across assigned eCommerce accounts: Chewy and/or Amazon. This role owns the day-to-day commercial relationship for its assigned account(s) and is accountable for sales plan attainment, promotional strategy, forecasting, and on-site visibility across an assigned portfolio of Pet Consumer brands.

The Business Development Manager builds and executes customer business plans, develops aggressive go-to-market and promotional strategies, and partners closely with Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and BU eCommerce teams. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, customer influence, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving eCommerce environment.

This position based in our Schaumburg, IL office where we operate in a hybrid work environment that balances in-person collaboration with workplace flexibility. Employees are currently expected to work from the office at least three (3) days per week. Beginning in September 2026, our hybrid model will transition to four (4) in-office days per week to support greater collaboration, learning, and team connection. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop and execute annual customer business plans that deliver sales, profitability, and market share objectives.
  • Own the day-to-day commercial relationship for assigned eCommerce customer(s), including Amazon and/or Chewy.
  • Balance strategic account management with day-to-day tactical execution by managing customer requests, resolving operational issues, coordinating cross-functional activities, and ensuring timely execution of business initiatives.
  • Analyze sales trends, profitability, consumer behavior, and competitive activity to identify risks and growth opportunities and align with brands and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate and negotiate across business units to launch new strategies and product lines.
  • Develop and communicate sales forecasts in partnership with Business Units and Demand Planners.
  • Regularly evaluate the catalog to ensure all products are active and content is ecommerce optimized.
  • Analyze weekly reporting on sales opportunities and risks and develop actionable plans to grow the account.
  • Collaborate with brands and business units to increase on-site visibility and optimize merchandising.
  • Develop strategic, innovative approaches to growing the business in a complex, competitive marketplace.
  • Conduct post-event analysis of promotions and determine ROI.
  • Partner with the customer and business units on all promotional plans and routinely update the business on progress and results.
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Operations, and Logistics on new product lines, marketing opportunities, and efficient freight strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • 3+ years of experience managing eCommerce or omnichannel customer accounts in consumer product sales.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline.
  • Ability to plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally and transversely across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of eCommerce product flow and web store performance optimization.
  • Outstanding consultative selling abilities and excellent interpersonal skills with customers and partners.
  • Solid analytical skills to analyze results, develop strategies, and solve problems.
  • Strong listening and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to deadlines, accuracy, and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in business or related discipline.
  • Experience with Amazon Vendor Central, Amazon Seller Central, Chewy Partner Hub, Chewy Vendor Data Systems, or similar eCommerce platforms.
  • Deep understanding of “How to Win” in the Chewy and/or Amazon environment.
  • Experience with business intelligence and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Google Analytics.
  • Pet industry, consumer packaged goods (CPG), or consumables experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Comfortable, corporate office environment; frequent use of phone and PC; required business travel approximately 10-15%, primarily overnight, for customer meetings and business priorities. 

POSITION INFORMATION:

This position pays $100,000 - $130,000 annually, heavily dependent on relevant past experience and geographic metro location (Schaumburg, IL). This role is also eligible for an annual incentive based on plan parameters which include individual and business metrics.
