What is an Amazon Disability?

An Amazon Disability job refers to roles that support employees with disabilities, ensuring accessibility, accommodation, and inclusion in the workplace. These positions may be part of Amazon's Disability and Leave Services (DLS) team, focusing on assisting employees with disability-related accommodations, return-to-work processes, and compliance with legal requirements. The goal is to create an equitable work environment, allowing employees with disabilities to thrive in their roles.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for someone working in Amazon’s Disability and Leave Services team?

Daily tasks in Amazon’s Disability and Leave Services team include reviewing and processing employee leave requests, guiding employees through the disability and leave of absence process, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements like ADA, FMLA, and company policies. Team members frequently collaborate with HR, managers, and external benefits vendors to address complex cases and answer employees’ questions. Managing documentation, updating case files in internal systems, and providing compassionate support throughout the leave process are also core responsibilities. This role is dynamic and requires balancing administrative tasks with high-touch, confidential interactions to ensure a positive employee experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Amazon Disability position, and why are they important?

To excel in an Amazon Disability role—such as Disability and Leave Services (DLS) Specialist or Disability Case Manager—you need a solid understanding of disability case management, labor laws (such as ADA and FMLA), and relevant HR procedures, often supported by prior HR or case management experience. Familiarity with human resources information systems (HRIS), case management software, and regulatory compliance platforms is highly valuable. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and attention to detail are essential for effectively supporting employees and navigating sensitive cases. These abilities ensure accurate management of disability claims and provide critical support to Amazon employees during life-changing situations.
