What is an Amazon delivery contractor?

Amazon Delivery Contractors are independent business owners or companies that partner with Amazon to deliver packages to customers. They operate under the Amazon Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program, managing their own teams of delivery drivers and vehicles. These contractors are responsible for ensuring timely and accurate deliveries, adhering to Amazon’s standards for customer service and safety. Unlike Amazon Flex drivers who are individual gig workers, Delivery Contractors run established delivery operations and often employ multiple drivers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Amazon delivery contractor, and why are they important?

To excel as an Amazon Delivery Contractor, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and strong time management skills. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, delivery route apps, and basic vehicle maintenance is typically required. Excellent customer service, reliability, and attention to detail help set top performers apart. These skills ensure timely, accurate deliveries and a positive customer experience, which are crucial for maintaining Amazon's service standards.

What are some common challenges faced by Amazon delivery contractors, and how can they be managed effectively?

Amazon Delivery Contractors often encounter challenges such as tight delivery schedules, navigating unfamiliar routes, and handling a high volume of packages, especially during peak seasons. Effective time management, using GPS navigation tools, and staying organized with package sorting can help overcome these hurdles. Building good communication with the dispatch team and maintaining a positive attitude towards customer service also contribute to smoother operations and job satisfaction.

Job description

As a Construction Manager within Global Engineering Services (GES) North America (NA) Design & Construction (D&C), you are Amazon's owner's representative throughout the full construction lifecycle. You play an integral role in delivering the built facilities and infrastructure that power Amazon's logistics network - including sortation centers, delivery stations, and auxiliary buildings - through new builds, retrofits, and expansions.
In this role, you serve as the primary point of interface between Amazon and its external partners - developers, general contractors, design engineers, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) - while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders responsible for equipping, furnishing, and operating our facilities. You are accountable for the safe, on-time, in scope, and on-budget delivery of construction projects, and you bring a disciplined approach to budget management, schedule oversight, contract execution, and quality assurance.
You operate with a high degree of independence within your assigned region, managing multiple concurrent projects while maintaining clear and transparent communication with all project stakeholders

This role combines construction management, engineering, project planning, contract management, and facilities delivery - and requires approximately 60% regional travel within North America.
This role requires 60% regional travel on a yearly basis. When not traveling, you must have availability to work from a corporate office. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations listed

Relocation assistance may be provided.
Key job responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Champion Amazon's safety programs and standards across all internal and external project teams; hold all accountable to a safety-first culture
- Interface and coordinate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to maintain regulatory compliance and ensure seamless project execution
- Lead or assist in negotiations with regulatory bodies as required for permitting and approvals
Project & Construction Management
- Manage multiple concurrent projects simultaneously - ranging from small renovations to large-scale ($100M+) new facility builds - from design phase through construction completion and operational handover
- Serve as Amazon's owner's representative and primary integrator between construction execution teams and internal stakeholders (operations, equipment, IT, etc.)
- Review construction documents, drawings, and specifications for conformance to Amazon's building standards and design guidelines
- Identify and resolve design conflicts, schedule clashes, and coordination gaps with other Amazon execution teams
- Conduct detailed reviews of contractor bid packages, budgets, and schedules to identify and resolve discrepancies
- Assess project performance through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for safety, quality, cost, schedule, and sustainability
Budget, Schedule & Contract Management
- Own comprehensive budget tracking, cashflow forecasting, and cost management across assigned projects
- Review, analyze, and respond to all proposed cost and time change requests submitted by external project teams
- Negotiate construction, procurement, and labor contracts with developers and general contractors; present formal documentation for approval when required
- Ensure contracts are fit for purpose, cost-effective, and incorporate appropriate service level agreements
- Advise on the impact of changes in scope, schedule, cost, and permitting
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
- Audit contractor performance to ensure skills, competencies, and resources are appropriate for the work being performed
- Ensure contracted resources deliver work that meets duration and quality targets; address and resolve underperformance issues
- Coach and guide project teams - including developers, design engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders - throughout the full project lifecycle
- Inform developers and contractors of projected changes in resource or work demand to enable proactive planning
- Partner with teams responsible for base building management transition and oversight of all turnover documentation
Communication & Reporting
- Maintain clear, concise, and transparent communication with all internal and external stakeholders on project status, risks, and key developments
- Utilize Amazon's information systems to record and update schedule, budget, and other key project data
- Participate in weekly Architect, Owner, and Contractor (AOC) meetings; provide input on root causes and corrective actions
- Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements, equipment needs, and services for expansion and remodel projects
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Provide critical review of current design standards to identify value engineering and design enhancement opportunities
- Seek sustainable, environmentally responsible solutions throughout the construction process in alignment with Amazon's building practices
- Identify and implement process improvements that drive better outcomes across safety, cost, schedule, and quality
A day in the life
Each day, you act as Amazon's owner on the ground - ensuring the safe, on-time, and on-budget execution of construction projects across your region. Your day may include:
- Coordinating with general contractors on project status, upcoming milestones, and emerging risks
- Reviewing and responding to RFIs, submittals, change order requests, and schedule updates
- Participating in AOC meetings and driving accountability across the project team
- Conducting site visits to verify construction quality and safety compliance
- Updating Amazon's project management systems with current budget, schedule, and status information
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders on facility readiness, equipment coordination, and operational handover planning
- Reviewing design documents and providing feedback to engineering and design partner
