Job description

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Senior Product Designer to lead the design of experiences that span the digital and physical worlds - from the screen-based interfaces used at robotic workstations, to the physical touchpoints, visual guidance, and spatial workflows someone navigates while picking, packing, and problem-solving on the fulfillment center floor.
You'll define what "Exceptional UX" means in an environment where the user's hands and body are constantly in motion and their focus is on getting the job done right. This means designing not just pixels, but the full interaction arc: how someone is guided through each step of a workflow - clearly, safely, and with minimal friction - while supporting momentum and a clear path forward when things go wrong.
Key job responsibilities
* Design across the digital-physical spectrum including workstation screen interfaces, and physical affordances like light and sound
* Define interaction models for interfaces optimized for safety, efficiency, accuracy, and comfort, across a highly diverse workforce
* Design accessible workflows considering visual, auditory, and haptic feedback
* Create scalable mechanisms and reusable design patterns that multiply team impact across multiple robotics programs
* Map end-to-end service journeys that account for body posture, repetitive motion, workstation ergonomics, and transitions between digital guidance and physical task execution
* Lead UX research efforts with our product partners in the field through contextual inquiry on the warehouse floor, shadowing during work cycles, and observing how physical environment shapes interaction with digital tools
* Partner cross-functionally with hardware engineering, software engineering, product management, industrial design, and operations to ensure physical and digital touchpoints are coherent
* Mentor junior designers and elevate UX maturity across the organization
* Advocate for the Associate by bringing field-grounded insights into roadmap and prioritization discussions
* Synthesize quantitative operational data with qualitative field insights to inform design priorities and trade-offs
* Produce written and visual artifacts that influence product roadmaps and senior leadership decisions
A day in the life
As a Senior Product Designer on the Amazon Robotics team, you'll shape how someone interacts with advanced robotic systems across Amazon's fulfillment network. Your focus is designing the interfaces and workflows that guide someone through their workflow - creating a seamless connection between what's on screen, what's communicated through lights and sounds, and what's happening at the workstation.
You'll conduct field research, create prototypes, design compelling experiences, and collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, industrial designers, and human factors engineers. This is a role for someone who thinks in systems and first principles, not just screens.
Amazon offers a full range of benefits that support you and eligible family members, including domestic partners and their children can use. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment. The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:
1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
2. Maternity and Parental Leave Options
3. Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan
If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!
About the team
The Robotics Experience Design (RXD) team brings together User Experience, User Interface Design, Industrial Design, and Human Factors research to make Amazon Robotics products safer, more usable, and more desirable. We deliver human-centered innovation across the robotics portfolio by focusing on durable customer needs. Our team believes design is how it works, not just how it looks. We prioritize safety and accessibility, define problems before building solutions, and test with real users early and often. We design for scale, creating reusable systems and patterns that drive simplicity across products. We maintain user momentum - pushing back when system variables put operator flow at risk.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of design experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- 5+ years of hands-on work with: field research, ethnography, lab-based user testing, remote testing, paper prototype testing, iterative prototype testing, concept testing, and survey design experience
- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
- Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production
- Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems, or experience in development in the last 3 years
- Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, Interaction or UX Design, Industrial Design, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and defining UX strategy in innovation problem spaces
- Strong portfolio demonstrating design across both digital interfaces and physical/environmental touchpoints, or a clear understanding of how digital products exist within physical contexts
- Proficiency in modern design and supporting AI tools (Figma, Figma-Make, Kiro, or similar)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with UX design of complex workflows
- Experience in service design involving combination of physical and digital spaces and designing large-scale systems and interactions with a large and vast group of stakeholders
- Experience building launch readiness frameworks, standard work, playbooks, and scalable deployment mechanisms across multiple concurrent sites
- Experience measuring key operational metrics (e.g., order cycle time, ship estimate accuracy, on-time and complete shipment, inventory record defect rate)
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience and practical knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, usability principles, web-based information architecture and designs
