Job description

The Investment Data Senior Analyst will play a critical role in advancing Venerable's investment data, reporting, and technology capabilities. This position combines investment data expertise with strong analytical and technical skills to design, enhance, and support data-driven solutions that improve scalability, efficiency, and decision-making. Investment data encompasses the full spectrum of information supporting the investment lifecycle, including security reference data, positions, transactions, valuations, risk analytics, and related reporting data. The analyst will work across investment data management, databases, reporting, automation, governance, and operational workflows to deliver high-quality solutions that support business objectives. This position resides within the Investments, Derivatives, and Risk Operations team in Venerable's Risk department.Venerable is currently working in a hybrid work model, in the office 3 days/week and remote 2 days/week. This role is based in our West Chester, PA office.
Please note this position is not eligible to consider candidates who require current or future visa sponsorship or visa transfer to maintain US work authorization.Primary Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data flows from internal and external sources, investigate and resolve investment data exceptions and discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and implement improvements to strengthen data quality and operational efficiency.
  • Design and implement scalable investment data processes, including data ingestion, pipelines, validation, transformation, reconciliation, and downstream integrations, with a focus on data quality, operational efficiency, and support for analysis and reporting.
  • Support the evolution of investment data solutions through requirements gathering, testing, production support, and issue resolution. Participate in product planning and roadmap discussions to align data capabilities with business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards to support oversight, financial modeling, risk analysis, and strategic decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to apply technology, automation, and process redesign to reduce manual effort, improve timeliness, enhance controls, and support future scalability.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on investment data processes and systems, providing guidance to team members, stakeholders, and project partners.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (Investment Management, Risk, Operations, Financial Risk Management, Accounting, Treasury, Audit, Hedging, Valuation, and Technology) and external vendors (e.g., risk analytics platforms, investment accounting provider) to support investment-related data initiatives.
  • Advance investment data governance by maintaining data dictionaries, metadata, and process documentation to promote consistency, transparency, and reusability.
The candidate must possess the following skills and experiences:
  • 5+ years of experience in financial services, including direct experience with investment data management and solution design.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and optimize business processes and tools to improve workflow efficiency, reduce manual effort, and mitigate risk.
  • Proficiency in SQL, with a strong preference for experience working with large datasets and database design.
  • Proven ability to support product management processes, including requirements gathering and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Experience with data transmission, loading, reconciliation, reporting, and downstream integration.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with investment instruments and financial markets, particularly fixed income and risk analytics.
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
The following are preferred skills and qualifications:
  • Experience with data pipeline architecture, data warehousing, cloud platforms, or modern data environments, particularly Amazon Web Services, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools, particularly Power BI.
  • Programming experience in Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Experience with analytics, risk, investment accounting, or investment management platforms such as Blackrock Aladdin, Factset, Clearwater, or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and product ownership concepts.
  • Experience documenting data definitions, business rules, data mappings, metadata, lineage, controls, and process documentation.
  • CFA designation, progress toward the CFA, or other relevant finance, data, cloud, or technology certification.
