The School of Arts & Sciences at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor or Instructor of Computer Science position, beginning August 2026. This position is part of a rapidly growing program with the planned launch of a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) major, offering an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of computing education at the university.
The successful candidate will teach in our undergraduate programs in computer science and related disciplines. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate a passion for teaching and mentorship, and who can help students develop hands-on, career-relevant skills in areas such as programming, data, and emerging AI technologies.
The program emphasizes applied learning through real-world projects, including areas such as data analysis, application development, and AI-driven systems. (Mount St. Joseph University)
Primary teaching responsibilities may include courses in introductory and intermediate computer science, data analytics, and AI-related topics. The ability to contribute to departmental needs in mathematics or quantitative coursework is a plus.
Responsibilities include:
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in computer science and related areas.
  • Developing engaging, hands-on learning experiences that connect theory to real-world applications.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate students, including support for internships, projects, and career pathways.
  • Contributing to the development and growth of new programs, including the upcoming AI major.
  • Collaborating with faculty across disciplines to support interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Providing service to the department, university, and professional community.
  • Engaging in scholarly or professional activities appropriate to rank and appointment.
  • Fulfilling other duties as assigned to support the mission of the School of Arts & Sciences and the university.

For Assistant Professor (tenure-track): Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution; ABD applicants will be considered.
For Instructor (non-tenure track): Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
We welcome candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and student success. Prior teaching experience in higher education or K-12 settings will be considered.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Experience or interest in artificial intelligence, data science, or related fields.
  • Evidence of effective, student-centered teaching and mentorship.
  • Interest in applied or pedagogical research, particularly in AI, healthcare applications, or computer science education.
  • Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary or quantitative coursework (e.g., mathematics or statistics).
  • Industry or applied experience that supports career-focused instruction.
